In a radio interview he said,\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s probably still too early to give you a very specific answer but <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-22938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/boardwalk-300x167.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/boardwalk-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/boardwalk-150x83.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/boardwalk.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>there\u2019s a lot of work going into that right now.\u00a0But we are trying like heck to get toward, I hope, before the Fourth of July or at least by the Fourth of July &#8230; that we\u2019re in a position where we can say, you know what, subject to a lot of different parameters the casinos can be open again.\u201d Which is the best news the Boardwalk has had in months, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/coronavirus\/2020\/05\/atlantic-city-casinos-could-reopen-by-july-4th-murphy-says.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">equivocal though it may be<\/a>. Murphy was pretty candid about the challenges faced:\u00a0\u201cThe bad news is casinos sort of have the attributes that are hardest to deal with this virus. It\u2019s indoors, no <!--more-->ventilation. You\u2019re sedentary, you\u2019re in close proximity. Having said that, they\u2019re big [architectural] footprints and we think there are successful steps that can be taken to address the challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Atlantic City casinos will have been closed almost four months by Murphy&#8217;s target date, making it difficult to salvage 2020. Perhaps the only owner who will come out ahead is <strong>Twin River Holdings<\/strong>, whose takeover of <strong>Bally&#8217;s Atlantic City<\/strong> (change the brand, please) is almost certain to postdate the reopening, meaning Twin River will be working from a blank slate.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Stanley Ho<\/strong> is dead and the whitewashing of his legacy is in full force. Yesterday <em>Global Gaming Business<\/em> published an <em>apologia pro vita sua<\/em> and now follows <a href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/Life-Arts\/Obituaries\/Stanley-Ho-made-Macao-s-gaming-industry-into-today-s-giant2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another sweet ode<\/a> to the sleazy casino oligarch from a different source. You will not find the words &#8220;Triads,&#8221; &#8220;wartime collaborator&#8221; or &#8220;Communist sympathizer&#8221; anywhere in this lachrymose tribute.<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>PlayTech<\/strong>, also known as <strong>PT Entertainment Services<\/strong>, has been shut down for &#8220;serious systemic failings&#8221; with regard to irresponsible gambling. It allowed an addicted player to keep wagering even after several of his debit cards had been declined. And even though he couldn&#8217;t <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-22271\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Union-Jack.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"255\" height=\"128\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Union-Jack.png 255w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Union-Jack-150x75.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" \/>prove he qualified for VIP status, he was awarded it anyway. PlayTech is accused of failing to conduct any sort of responsible-gaming intervention, potentially contributing to the 25-year-old&#8217;s suicide. Only that event led to the suspension of his &#8220;Winner&#8221; account. Although he had lost $27,500 to PlayTech, it invited him to participate in a multi-million-dollar promotion. At the time of his death, the player owed almost $43 million.<\/p>\n<p>PTES is getting off lightly. It could be liable for over $4 million in fines, but will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/news\/business\/news\/online-gambling-company-closed-down-playtech-addicted-customer-suicide-a9534746.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">donate $5.5 million to charity<\/a> and kick in a few hundred thousand to problem-gambling charities. PlayTech is shuttering its <strong>Titan<\/strong> and <strong>Winner<\/strong> brands. A company spokesman said, \u201cRegarding the <strong>Gambling Commission<\/strong>&#8216;s investigation, we take full responsibility for the regulatory breaches identified, and PT Entertainment Services&#8217; actions fell significantly short of the high standards we set ourselves as a group.&#8221; We should say so.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jottings<\/strong><\/em>: It&#8217;s double free play this month at <strong>The D<\/strong>. Owner <strong>Derek Stevens<\/strong> knows how to push the right customer buttons &#8230; Four <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong> casinos <a href=\"https:\/\/calvinayre.com\/2020\/05\/29\/casino\/boyd-begins-dusting-off-the-tables-machines-at-13-casinos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">were expected to reopen yesterday<\/a>. The affected properties are <strong>Ameristar St. Charles<\/strong> and <strong>Ameristar Kansas City<\/strong> in <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6232\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/boyd-gaming-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\" \/><strong>Missouri,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Diamond Jo Dubuque<\/strong> and the <strong>Diamond Jo Worth<\/strong> in <strong>Iowa<\/strong>. In other states, <strong>Valley Forge Resort Casino<\/strong>, <strong>Par-A-Dice<\/strong>, <strong>Belterra Resort<\/strong> and <strong>Blue Chip<\/strong> are cinches to reopen but <strong>Belterra Park<\/strong> is clouded with uncertainty &#8230; <strong>Grant Bowie<\/strong>&#8216;s distinguished era at the helm of <strong>MGM China<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ggrasia.com\/era-ends-as-grant-bowie-retires-as-mgm-china-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has ended<\/a>.
