So confident is that Station &#8220;has not been running any large-scale promotions ahead of the <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3061\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/wildfire-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"104\" height=\"120\" \/>reopening.&#8221; (Take that, <strong>Derek Stevens<\/strong>!) Yes, Virginia, the little <strong>Wildfire<\/strong> casinos have now reopened, along with most of the big properties. The <strong>Palms<\/strong> remains on ice since Station &#8220;will need to monitor the LV Strip, airlift, etc. as it\u2019s a hybrid property.&#8221; The company&#8217;s not hurting from keeping its two Fiestas, <strong>Texas Station<\/strong> and the Palms closed, as they accounted for only 20% of last year&#8217;s revenue and 10% of cash flow (thanks to losses at the Palms).<\/p>\n<p>Analyst <strong>Joseph Greff<\/strong> reported that Station &#8220;is resuming conversations after buyers paused in March as <strong>COVID-19<\/strong> began proliferating; management is hopeful there will be <!--more-->some activity as things start to thaw, though buyers want to ensure they have an anchor tenant locked down&#8221; before delving into Station&#8217;s rich land bank. Although his inspired &#8220;Keep America Flying&#8221; promotion contained no caveat requiring fliers to stay at a Stevens-owned casino, participants are going to remember who made it possible, good will you cannot buy. (Or can you?)<\/p>\n<p>* <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> continues to promote itself as the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong>&#8216;s value way station\u00a0(except for <strong>Nobu Hotel<\/strong>). It&#8217;s advertising rates at newly reopened <strong>Caesars Palace<\/strong> starting at $99, the <strong>Flamingo Las Vegas<\/strong> at <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-27241\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Harrahs-LV.jpg 2016w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>$47 and soon-to-reopen <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Las Vegas<\/strong> at $47 (hardly the same value proposition as the Flamingo). Depending on demand, <strong>Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong> will reopen starting at $55\/night, <strong>The Linq<\/strong> for $35 (not much less than it&#8217;s worth), <strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong> for $49, <strong>Bally&#8217;s<\/strong> for $47 and <strong>The Rio<\/strong> for a can&#8217;t-miss $29\/night. <strong>The Cromwell<\/strong> misses out on the value parade at $89 but that&#8217;s the price you pay for intimacy. Were all that not enough, Caesars is brandishing 5X reward credits and tier credits. Caesars&#8217; rates have had the toughest time recovering of any of the Big Four but there seems to method in CEO <strong>Anthony Rodio<\/strong>&#8216;s not-so-madness.<\/p>\n<p>* Are <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> customers truly back in charge? <strong>Global Gaming Business<\/strong> thinks so, citing three majors&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/another-sign-of-the-new-normalfree-parking-on-the-strip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">renunciation of self-parking fees<\/a>. (<strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> never charged these odious levies.) OK, there&#8217;s been some weaseling from Caesars, prompting industry pundit <strong>Steve Gallaway<\/strong> to <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-22441\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/MGM-Grand-300x161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/MGM-Grand-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/MGM-Grand-150x80.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/MGM-Grand.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>ask,\u00a0\u201cAre you going to be the only operator on the Las Vegas Strip that\u2019s charging parking fees?\u201d Not when Market Numero Uno during the recovery is going to be drive-in players (not locals, as analysts often wrongly predict). Gallaway says of the casinos&#8217; craze for fees, fees and yet more fees,\u00a0\u201cIt had nothing to do with supply and demand.\u00a0It was just the operators identifying another way to squeeze money out of the customer\u2019s pocket.\u201d Besides, the resorts need to incentivize travel at a time when the audience&#8217;s evident inclination is to stay and play close to home. (&#8216;Convenience gambling&#8217; indeed.) Opines Gallaway of the big boys, &#8220;they\u2019re recognizing they need to adjust their business model.\u201d We sure hope he&#8217;s right.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Jottings<\/strong><\/em>: Default or no default, developer <strong>Steven Witkoff<\/strong> says he is &#8220;committed&#8221; to completed $3.1 billion The Drew. No word on whether he was also committed to an asylum shortly thereafter. Always count on <strong>Tamares Group<\/strong> to bring up the rear &#8230; <strong>Terry Caudill<\/strong> is getting in on the aggressive-promo game. The <strong>Four Queens<\/strong> owner is offering $10 in free slot play to <strong>Royal Club<\/strong> members for every 100 points earned, in a sliding-scale promotion that accelerates to a $100 comp bonus for 4,000 points earned &#8230; Another setback for <strong>Crown Resorts<\/strong>: It cannot offer slots in <strong>Sydney<\/strong> until 2041 at the earliest, after <strong>Star Casino Sydney<\/strong> won the exclusive concession.
