This should have been a no-brainer for MGM, especially given Hornbuckle&#8217;s experience with (22 years&#8217; worth) and intimate knowledge of the company. Who better was out there? <strong>Gary Loveman<\/strong>? Sheesh. After the ouster of <strong>Jim Murren<\/strong>, Hornbuckle has provided a steadying presence at a company that needed one to weather the <strong>Covid-19<\/strong> pandemic. We congratulate him on an honor well-deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">If <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> keeps this up we&#8217;ll have to name him Man of the Year. The <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> CEO has extended salaries and health benefits to <strong>Venelazzo<\/strong> employees through October 31. Wrote Adelson, &#8220;I&#8217;m confident our business in <strong>Asia<\/strong> is trending the right direction, but <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> may take more time to recover. It is my unequivocal belief, however\u2014informed by more than 70 years of business experience\u2014that our industry will get back to a regular pace at some point in the future &#8230; To my knowledge, we are the only company in our industry and likely one of the few in the broader hospitality industry who [<em>sic<\/em>] has not furloughed or laid off employees because of the COVID-19 pandemic.&#8221; Notice that Adelson says &#8220;a&#8221; regular pace. Post-Covid Las Vegas may never be the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Jottings<\/em><\/strong>: Like it needs any more trouble, the <strong>Palms Casino<\/strong> suffered a fire on the sixth floor yesterday. The damage does not appear to have been serious &#8230; Not only is <strong>Atomic Liquors<\/strong> branching out into the <strong>Arts District<\/strong> in Las Vegas, hostelry is coming, too. <strong>Hotel Clo\u00e9<\/strong>, a four-story boutique hotel, is underway. When completed it will have 74 rooms &#8230; <em>VitalVegas<\/em> has a plausible theory for that woozy-looking new <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> logo. It may be shout-out to ancient Roman coins, which were of irregular shape. Said one <em>VV<\/em> reader, &#8220;If you have to explain a logo then it doesn&#8217;t work&#8221; &#8230; <strong>Carl Icahn<\/strong> is no longer the power behind the Caesars throne. The mogul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdcgamingreports.com\/report-icahns-ownership-stake-in-caesars-entertainment-down-to-2\/\">has sold down his stake<\/a> in the company from 11% to 2%.
