Archrival <strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong> is proceeding somewhat more circumspectly with its casino reopenings. \u201cCaesars will open its remaining <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> properties in line with customer demand, regulatory requirements and any additional health and safety considerations,\u201d the company told the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>. Given that convention business is nada, zip, zilch, we&#8217;re puzzled as to why MGM has been so aggressive about rebooting the <strong>Las Vegas Strip<\/strong> unless it is for the sake of appearances &#8230; and to entice midweek business. As for <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong>&#8216; giant payroll dump of <em>Le Reve<\/em>, \u201cI think that\u2019s gotten a lot of people nervous in Las Vegas,\u201d comments <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em> entertainment columnist <strong>John Katsilmotes<\/strong>. However, he thinks <strong>Cirque du Soleil<\/strong> will come back, bit by bit. \u201cWe\u2019re still dealing with a kind of value customer in Las Vegas right now, the drive-in crowd who are looking for a bargain.\u201d Cirque a bargain? If you say so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<p>Right now, incentivizing midweek travel is the play of the day. <strong>Wynncore<\/strong> is comping the third night of a three-day stay while three nights at the <strong>Flamingo<\/strong> go for $87 (total, plus resort fees). It may have taken a pandemic for the resort industry to see on which side its bread is buttered but better late than never. As for shows, <em>Le Reve<\/em> was owned and operated by Wynn Resorts, so that was clearly a survival move. Cirque&#8217;s problems (aside from shows being on shutdown) are mainly internal and if it doesn&#8217;t come back, landlord MGM can always find somebody else to fill the spaces. However, Cirque is not going down without a fight: It&#8217;s airing an hour-long <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cirquedusoleil.com\/cirqueconnect?&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_source=7309461-972796&amp;utm_campaign=20200820_FAN_B2C_CLUBCIRQUE_NA_NA_ACTIVE_NEWSLETTER_NA_CIRQUECONNECT_MULTI&amp;utm_id=7309461-972796&amp;iid=100000009402338&amp;RMID=972796\">&#8216;best of&#8217; specia<\/a>l for <strong>Club Cirque<\/strong> members today online at noon Vegas time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"580\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/wynn-palace-macau-image_large.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/wynn-palace-macau-image_large.png 580w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/wynn-palace-macau-image_large-150x106.png 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/wynn-palace-macau-image_large-300x212.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">While on the subject of Wynn, it&#8217;s getting nervous about <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong>&#8216;s close ties with the <strong>White House<\/strong> &#8230; not for ideological reasons but for fear that <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong> may get caught in the present crossfire between the Chinese government and the Trump administration. In an <strong>SEC<\/strong> filing, Wynn Resorts warned of \u201ccontentious punitive or retaliatory measures being imposed on businesses and individuals.\u201d That is a nice way of saying, &#8216;We could lose our concession.&#8217; It fretted about \u201cnational security and national and regional politics.\u201d Specifically, Wynn is worried about a U.S. ban on <strong>WeChat<\/strong>, popular with Wynn&#8217;s Chinese patrons: \u201cWe are unable to ascertain the scope of the ban at this point, and there is no assurance that the ban will not adversely affect our ability to communicate with certain of our customers. Sustained tensions between the <strong>United States<\/strong> and <strong>China<\/strong> could significantly undermine the stability of the global economy in general and the Chinese economy in particular.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wynn patted itself on the back for its philanthropy and other good deeds in <strong>Macao<\/strong> but professed unease that \u201cour business and prospects may be negatively impacted by the fact that we are majority-owned by a U.S. company should the U.S.-China relationship further deteriorate.\u201d It is unclear whether said unease (and precipitous declines in business) will postpone next year&#8217;s groundbreaking on <strong>Crystal Palace<\/strong>. As the company concluded, \u201cOur financial results have been, and are expected to continue to be, affected by the economy in China.&#8221; The real audience for this communiqu\u00e9 may not be regulators but Adelson, trying to get him to use his direct line to the Oval Office and say, &#8216;Take a chill pill.&#8217;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">We guess the <strong>Silver Nugget<\/strong> was just kidding with that filing about staying closed. The <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> locals casinos put doubters like us to rest today with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/news\/local-news\/silver-nugget-reopens-on-las-vegas-boulevard-north\/?utm_source=facebook.com&amp;utm_campaign=socialflow&amp;utm_medium=referral\" class=\"broken_link\">a surprise reopening<\/a>. The Nugget&#8217;s been doing business for 56 years.
