The only market spared was <strong>Baton Rouge<\/strong> (-12%). <strong>Lake Charles<\/strong> bore the brunt of <strong>Hurricane Laura<\/strong> and the numbers reflected it. <strong>Golden Nugget<\/strong> and <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Lake Charles<\/strong> both grossed $18.5 million, down 37.5% and 34% respectively. <strong>Delta Downs<\/strong>&#8216; $11 million was a 23% and <strong>Isle Grand Palais<\/strong>, which was ripped from its moorings by the storm, sank 44% to $4.5 million. <strong>New Orleans<\/strong> casinos took it pretty hard, too, with <strong>Harrah&#8217;s New Orleans<\/strong> clinging to its top spot with $12 million, plummeting 49.5%. <strong>Boomtown New Orleans<\/strong> was 21% off the pace with $8 million and <strong>Treasure Chest<\/strong> grossed $7 million for a 26% slippage. <strong>Amelia Belle<\/strong> was down 29.5% to $2.5 million but <strong>Fair Grounds<\/strong> racino was only 17% lower, albeit at $3 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--nextpage-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s new crown jewel, <strong>Belle of Baton Rouge<\/strong>, was a revenue disgrace, grossing $1 million and toppling 47%. <strong>Casino Rouge<\/strong> held steady at -3% and $4.5 million, while <strong>L&#8217;Auberge Baton Rouge<\/strong> ceded 8% yet grossed $12 million. In the <strong>Shreveport<\/strong>\/<strong>Bossier City<\/strong> area, <strong>Margaritaville<\/strong> ($13 million, -10.5%) continues to beat the pants off <strong>Horseshoe Bossier City<\/strong> ($10 million, -43%). How the mighty have fallen. <strong>Eldorado Shrevepor<\/strong>t&#8217;s $6 million (-35%) was good for third place, while table scraps went to <strong>Sam&#8217;s Town<\/strong> ($4 million, -38%), <strong>Boomtown Bossier<\/strong> ($4 million, -17%) and just-sold <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Louisiana Downs<\/strong> ($3 million, -17%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"312\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Mohegan-Sun.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17807\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Mohegan-Sun.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Mohegan-Sun-150x117.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Mohegan-Sun-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">On an altogether happier note, <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong> and <strong>Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong> split prime honors in <em>USA Today<\/em>&#8216;s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.10best.com\/interests\/hotels-resorts\/best-casino-hotels-casinos-across-united-states\/\" target=\"_blank\">annual survey<\/a> of the best casino resorts in the country. Mohegan Sun was tabbed #1 for its hotel while Foxwoods took the top spot for its casino. For dining, the dark-horse winner was <strong>Capriccio<\/strong> at <strong>Resorts Atlantic City<\/strong>, giving property operator Mohegan Sun another feather in its cap. Best <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong> attraction was the <strong>Mob Museum<\/strong> (hey, we&#8217;ve been saying that for years) and top casino was\u2014wait for it\u2014<strong>The D<\/strong>, a triumph for maverick owner <strong>Derek Stevens<\/strong>. Best Players Club went to <strong>Caesars Rewards<\/strong>, no surprise. Amazingly, second place for best Vegas casino went to the <strong>Plaza Hotel<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Venelazzo<\/strong> (<strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> bested by <strong>Tamares Group<\/strong> &#8230; oh, the humiliation!) <strong>Wynncore<\/strong> and <strong>Caesars Palace<\/strong>. The rest of the best went to <strong>Downtown Grand<\/strong> (#6), <strong>Red Rock Resort<\/strong>, <strong>The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas<\/strong>, the <strong>Sahara<\/strong> (!) and <strong>Bellagio<\/strong>, a poor showing for owner <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best non-Vegas casinos (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.10best.com\/awards\/travel\/best-casino-outside-of-las-vegas\/\" target=\"_blank\">aside from Foxwoods<\/a>) were fast-ascending <strong>Hard Rock Atlantic City<\/strong>, <strong>Atlantis Casino Resort Spa<\/strong> in <strong>Reno<\/strong>, <strong>Ocean Casino Resort<\/strong>, <strong>Casino del Sol<\/strong> in <strong>Tucson<\/strong>, <strong>Peppermill Resort Spa Casino<\/strong> in Reno, <strong>Seminole Hard Rock<\/strong> in <strong>Tampa<\/strong>, <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Resort<\/strong> in <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>, <strong>Pechanga Resort Casino<\/strong> and Mohegan Sun. Defunct <em>Le Reve<\/em> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.10best.com\/awards\/travel\/best-las-vegas-show\/\" target=\"_blank\">made it onto the list<\/a> of best Las Vegas shows, which seems to be of purely academic interest now, so we won&#8217;t enumerate them. As for best casino hotels nationwide, Mohegan Sun <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.10best.com\/awards\/travel\/best-casino-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\">was followed<\/a> by Casino del Sol, Pechanga and <strong>Hard Rock Hollywood<\/strong> (home of the guitar tower), <strong>Encore Boston Harbor<\/strong>, <strong>French Lick Resort<\/strong> (licking the <strong>Indiana<\/strong> competition), massive <strong>WinStar World Casino &amp; Resort<\/strong> in <strong>Oklahoma<\/strong>, <strong>IP Casino Resort<\/strong> in <strong>Biloxi<\/strong>, Foxwoods and Venelazzo, the only Vegas property to crack this top 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"224\" height=\"224\" class=\"wp-image-25611\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Pritzker.jpeg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Pritzker.jpeg 224w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Pritzker-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/>Cheers to <strong>Illinois<\/strong> Gov. <strong>J.B. Pritzker<\/strong> (D) for issuing an executive order that temporarily allows sports bettors to register remotely. Despite only two sports books being up and running, business was fast out of the gate, with handle being $52.5 million in July. Although 23,000 mobile accounts have been opened you&#8217;d better hurry: Pritzker&#8217;s clemency expires tomorrow. Said analyst <strong>Dustin Gouker<\/strong>, \u201cWith Illinois\u2019 sizable potential as a market, it could be a difference measure in tens of millions in wagers each month.\u201d Almost all of the action was happening at (you guessed it) <strong>Rivers Casino Des Plaines<\/strong>, with half a million dollars chipped in by <strong>Argosy Belle<\/strong> in <strong>Alton<\/strong>.
