Steve Wynn<\/strong> is back in the news again. His former attorney, L. Lin Wood<\/strong>, is suing Wynn for alleged defamation, the ex-casino mogul supposedly having told Donald Trump<\/strong> that Wood was several fries short of a Happy Meal<\/a>. The falling out between Wood and Wynn came after a charity dinner, at which Wood extolled the superior virtues of Christianity to Wynn, a Buddhist by way of Judaism. Before that, Wynn was happy to have Wood doing his dirty work, whether it was trying to muzzle<\/a> an attorney for victims of Wynn’s sexual harassment or sweeping aforesaid misconduct<\/a> under the rug. Of one sexual assault Wynn said churlishly, blaming the victim, \u201cAnybody who is over 10 years old and knows what goes on in the world knows what happens next. Along comes this gal who had a turn with me, obviously being advised on what to do. So, in this context, $7.5 million was not a significant number. And I paid it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for Wood’s sanity, judge for yourself. He was banned from Twitter<\/strong> for calling for Vice President Mike Pence<\/strong>‘s execution by firing squad. He’s shilled for QAnon. He has insinuated that Supreme Court<\/strong> Chief Justice John Roberts<\/strong> is both a pedophile and somehow complicit in the death of Justice Antonin Scalia<\/strong>. Oh, and sex-abuser Jeffrey Epstein<\/strong> is alive and thriving. A Delaware<\/strong> judge recently ruled that Wood’s in-court behavior \u201cexhibited a toxic stew of mendacity, prevarication, and surprising incompetence.\u201d And this is who Steve Wynn chose to handle his legal affairs? Pardon us but we don’t have a dog in this fight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Near-tossups are Tom Brady<\/strong> vs. Drew Brees<\/strong>, with the latter’s New Orleans Saints<\/strong> given a three-point edge, while the Buffalo Bills<\/strong> are projected to edge the Baltimore Ravens<\/strong> by 2.5. Nothing has changed significantly in the Super Bowl<\/strong> standings, led by the Chiefs at +200, with the Browns a distant +2,800. Offshore sports books are expanding their number of Super Bowl prop bets but, in deference to American Gaming Association<\/strong> President Bill Miller<\/strong>, we won’t get into that … for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it opens, Philly Live will offer 2,100-plus slots and electronic table games, plus 179 standard table games, poker included. There’s a modest hotel (208 rooms) and 12 restaurants. Atlantic City may have less to worry about than other casinos in the greater Philadelphia<\/strong> market, which will be well and truly saturated, if it wasn’t already. Cordish Cos<\/strong>. Executive Vice President Joe Billhimer<\/strong>, no stranger to gaming, predicts that \u201cWhat we have created here is unrivaled anywhere in the country. Sports fans, foodies, gaming enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a night of fun and excitement only has to make one stop to experience it all.\u201d Mind you, that’s roughly what they said about Horseshoe Baltimore<\/strong>. The decisive question is whether Cordish can leverage its strategic location into gambling dollars and, more importantly, draw off customers from suburban casinos. For one, its alliance with FanDuel<\/strong> strikes a blow against Valley Forge Casino Resort<\/strong>, which has dominated sports betting in the Keystone State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Believe it or not, Philly Live was 17 years in the making, the concession having passed from Foxwoods Resort Casino<\/strong> to Comcast<\/strong> and eventually to Cordish. The biggest obstacle to a successful opening is an ongoing ban on indoor dining but that is expected to be lifted today. Said Billhimer, \u201cWe\u2019ve gone through extraordinary measures to meet and exceed Pennsylvania<\/strong>\u2019s COVID-19 guidelines to ensure all of our guests have fun and feel safe.\u201d Let the games begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark your calendars for June, when the World of Concrete<\/strong> expo returns to Las Vegas<\/strong>. At the moment, Las Vegas is reeling from the $283 million negative economic impact of losing the Consumer Electronics Show<\/strong> and its 170,000 attendees thanks to the pandemic. We’re supposed to be attending Global Gaming Expo<\/strong> in October but haven’t penned it in on our datebook yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
