In a move described as &#8220;petulant,&#8221; not only is <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> taking his ball and going home, he wants the name of the company changed.<\/p>\n<p>He claims he could have done better, had he simply been allowed to exercise his incomparable casino mojo &#8230; but this emperor&#8217;s been naked for the better part of a decade. As for the &#8220;wasteful spending&#8221; he decries, one can only guess he&#8217;s referring to the capital improvements at <strong>Trump Taj Mahal<\/strong> (the sort of thing Trump himself could rarely be bothered with) which have goosed business there substantially.<\/p>\n<p>The already discounted sale of <strong>Trump Marina<\/strong> to <strong>Richard Fields<\/strong> (who hasn&#8217;t lined up the dough and recently liquidated his Manhattan <em>pied-a-terre<\/em>) looks shakier than ever &#8212; and it was not a deal that inspired confidence to begin with. Trump&#8217;s tantrum could easily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;sid=aB04JTb5PdtU&amp;refer=worldwide\" class=\"broken_link\">kill it outright<\/a>. Fields&#8217; company is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/business\/20090220_Sale_of_Trump_Marina_Casino_in_jeopardy.html\">hemming and hawing ominously<\/a>. And if that sale doesn&#8217;t come through, one analyst predicts a &#8220;death spiral&#8221; for TER.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/video\/#\/video\/business\/2009\/02\/17\/tsr.donald.trump.interview.cnn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">View the video at CNN.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>Bloviation alert: Trump disses own casinos, says they&#8217;re not worth beans.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Trumpster is engaging in <a href=\"http:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/Donald-Trump-quits-casino-apf-14364621.html\" class=\"broken_link\">a little revisionist history<\/a>, complaining that the company hasn&#8217;t diversified outside <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>. Oh, its various incarnations have tried. A Trump-branded riverboat in <strong>Gary<\/strong>, Ind. (now <strong>Don Barden<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>Majestic Star II<\/em>) enjoyed an early vogue, then went into steep decline. A Trump tribal-casino-management arrangement in <strong>California<\/strong> was short-lived. An effort to get in on the <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong> market went nowhere, except to court. As always with Trump, when in doubt &#8230; sue!<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to Trump&#8217;s ever-bombastic contentions, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/feeds\/reuters\/2009\/02\/17\/2009-02-17T231406Z_01_N17548164_RTRIDST_0_TRUMPENTERTAINMENT-BRAND-ANALYSIS.html?loomia_ow=t0:a16:g2:r3:c0.0767724:b22062592&amp;partner=loomia\">things are not coming up roses for him elsewhere<\/a>, either. (On a personal note, I balked at purchasing an otherwise appealing necktie at Filene&#8217;s Basement because it bore the Trump moniker on the reverse. Would you call that &#8220;negative brand equity&#8221;?)<\/p>\n<p>About the only good thing that&#8217;s come out of Trump&#8217;s insufferable TV series, <em>The Apprentice<\/em>, is that the mainstream media finally began paying attention to the thing of smoke and mirrors that was Trump&#8217;s casino kingdom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So Trump Entertainment Resorts has such little worth that it&#8217;s facing delisting, having become quite literally a penny stock.
