Evidently in their haste to get everything on line, Resorts World management didn&#8217;t fully perform their due diligence on Tacos El Cabron, which turned out <a href=\"https:\/\/thenevadaindependent.com\/article\/illegal-gambling-ringleader-admits-violating-terms-of-supervised-release\">to be partly owned<\/a> by convicted felon <strong>David Stroj<\/strong>. This came to light as part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/thenevadaindependent.com\/article\/embattled-gambler-lets-fly-with-accusations-against-resorts-world-president\">rupture between<\/a> Resorts World President <strong>Scott Sibella<\/strong> and gambler <strong>Brandon Sattler<\/strong>. The latter&#8217;s scattershot accusations included the assertion that he and Sibella \u201cprobably had sex with multiple women at the same time.\u201d <em>Probably<\/em>? Well, did they or didn&#8217;t they? If we&#8217;d participated in an orgy with a casino president that&#8217;s something we&#8217;d remember, for better or worse. Such roundhouse swings by Sattler only further reduce his credibility and increase the (good) chances that Sibella will be cleared by the <strong>Nevada Gaming Control Board<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Sibella &amp; Co.&#8217;s official position on the taco kerfuffle is, \u201cIn the instance of Tacos El Cabron, Resorts World Las Vegas conducted thorough background and due diligence checks as we do with all of our tenants, and nothing untoward was found. However, if we, along with gaming regulators, determine that there is a hidden interest of any kind that was not previously disclosed, we will act immediately to ensure full compliance with all gaming authorities.\u201d As <em>Vital Vegas<\/em> author <strong>Scott Roeben<\/strong> puts it, &#8220;The abrupt closure &#8230; certainly seems to qualify as &#8216;acting immediately,&#8217; with a strong whiff of &#8216;oopsie.'&#8221; Now Resorts World just has to hope that the rest of <em>l&#8217;affaire Sattler<\/em> goes away as quietly as the taqueria did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"274\" height=\"184\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14663\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo.jpg 274w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Penn-logo-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\"><strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> has clearly decided that one U.S. sports betting platform is better than two. As of July 1, <strong>theScore<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/penn-national-to-pull-thescore-sports-betting-app-from-us-markets-on-july-1\/\">will stop taking Yankee wagers<\/a> (which only affects four states), the better to concentrate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalsportsreport.com\/70864\/thescore-bet-plans-us-sports-betting-exit\/\" class=\"broken_link\">on the emergent Canadian market<\/a>. After all, Penn is heavily and notoriously allied with <strong>Barstool Sports<\/strong>, its U.S. sports betting vehicle of preference. Since Barstool is licensed in three times as many states as theScore, the math is inarguable. In the words of theScore COO <strong>Benjie Levy<\/strong>, &#8220;With theScore Bet launched and thriving in <strong>Ontario<\/strong>, and as we approach a major undertaking this summer with the launch of our proprietary risk and trading service, the timing is right to focus our US efforts on marketing Barstool Sportsbook and our Canadian efforts on marketing theScore Bet.\u201d Penn will, however, continue to integrate the Barstool and theScore platforms, aiming for an autumn 2023 consummation\u2014just in time for football season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"300\" height=\"209\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/texasstation-pic.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3058\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/texasstation-pic.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/texasstation-pic-150x104.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Don&#8217;t plan on visiting <strong>Texas Station<\/strong> or <strong>Fiesta Rancho<\/strong> until June 5 of next year\u2014and maybe not even then. <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.8newsnow.com\/news\/2-station-casinos-properties-remain-closed-with-no-known-reopening-date\/\" class=\"broken_link\">has again postponed the reopening<\/a> of these two <strong>Covid-19<\/strong> casualties. Having exported as much as 94% of their business to other Station properties, the question of their resumption ought not to be &#8220;When&#8221; so much as &#8220;Why.&#8221; There doesn&#8217;t seem to be much money left for them to make and they&#8217;d have to rebuild customer relations that have lapsed for 3.5 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They can keep their gaming licenses if they operate as &#8220;Trailer Stations&#8221; one day each quarter, but that&#8217;s not good enough for some residents for whom the casinos were a second home. They also fret that the ripple effect of two closed casinos will further blight <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong>. Lamented <strong>Andrew Leavitt<\/strong>, a dispossessed customer, \u201cWhen I was a kid my parents usually had late shifts and would get out at a later time. Not everything is open at that point where you can go to dinner, but Texas Station and Fiesta were.&#8221; Not anymore. Besides, Station might be eying a big real estate score by removing the gaming entitlements and selling the properties outright. It <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5vegas.com\/2022\/06\/02\/2-station-casinos-properties-remain-closed-through-june-2023\/\">feels little incentive<\/a> to do otherwise these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Our <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong> bureau has been busy. It reports that a casino career fair, evidently intended to drum up scabs in case of an impending strike, was a flop. &#8220;It was a very large room and almost empty. All the casinos had tables set up. A spokesperson from <strong>Bally&#8217;s<\/strong> said he expected to see 200 people lined up when they opened up, but there were no lines at at. TV featured two people who were surprised to have been offered jobs on the spot. They both accepted them.&#8221; That&#8217;s too little, too late for overburdened A.C. casino workers. <strong>Local 54<\/strong> President <strong>Robert McDevitt<\/strong> is threatening a mid-June strike vote, which we fully expect to pass. Brace yourselves, Boardwalk customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The game isn&#8217;t worth the toss for some of the major players in the <strong>New York State<\/strong> sports betting scene. Of course, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalsportsreport.com\/70547\/will-ny-sports-betting-ever-make-any-money\/\" class=\"broken_link\">it&#8217;s their own fault<\/a> for having plunged into a cutthroat market with a 51% tax rate. \u201cThe house cannot continue to play if it is always going to lose,\u201d wailed <strong>BetMGM<\/strong> CFO <strong>Gary Deutsch<\/strong>, while most of <strong>Caesars Digital<\/strong>&#8216;s half-billion-dollar 1Q21 loss was chalked up to the Empire State. <strong>Bally Bet<\/strong> is steering clear altogether, calling the heavy promos\/high taxes scenario &#8220;insane.&#8221; (We can&#8217;t argue.) Snorted <strong>Bank of America<\/strong> analyst <strong>Shaun Kelley<\/strong>, <em>\u201c<\/em>It\u2019s not rocket science on the numbers. Anyone who knew gaming knew they weren\u2019t going to make money.\u201d Penn National CEO <strong>Jay Snowden<\/strong> even said as much, yet stupidly blundered forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"620\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Draft-Kings.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Draft-Kings.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Draft-Kings-150x86.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Draft-Kings-300x172.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>DraftKings<\/strong> lamely predicated its acceptance of the sky-high impost on the expectation that it would be lowered in an act of political benificence. (Why?) It also devoured its own DFS business in the process. Gov. <strong>Kathy Hochul<\/strong> (D) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covers.com\/industry\/new-york-sports-betting-tax-record-may-2022\">has been taking victory laps<\/a> this week over the mammoth tax haul she and predecessor <strong>Andrew Cuomo<\/strong> engineered. They knew pigeons when they saw them\u2014and took Big Gaming to the cleaners. The latter doubled down on the craziness with things like Caesars&#8217; matching $3,000 bonus. If you lost the whole $6K enchilada, Caesars still had to pay $3,060 in taxes. An anonymous gambling executive called it &#8220;the most insane thing I\u2019ve seen in 20 years in this industry.&#8221; Right now there&#8217;s a lot of wishful thinking going around that New York will lower taxes <em>next<\/em> year, even though it has no incentive to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Kelley concludes, \u201cOnce the money is coming in the door, it\u2019s very hard to go back.\u201d Or, in Hochul&#8217;s words, \u201cI am committed to upholding responsible and effective gaming policies that will move the industry forward and continue to drive our state&#8217;s economic growth.&#8221; That doesn&#8217;t sound too promising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jottings<\/strong>: Unexpected winners in the <strong>Chicago<\/strong> casino derby are <strong>FanDuel<\/strong> and <strong>DraftKings<\/strong>. As <strong>Bally&#8217;s Corp<\/strong>. has no sports betting presence in <strong>Illinois<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usbets.com\/chicago-winners-losers-ballys\/\">they&#8217;ll be able to run rampant<\/a> at least until the temporary <strong>Medinah Temple<\/strong> casino is opened, maybe longer &#8230; $414 million might seem like nothing to sneeze at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/macau-casino-win-in-may-2022-totals-just-413m\/\">but it&#8217;s dreadful<\/a> for <strong>Macao<\/strong>. That was the meagre amount of casino winnings last month. The central of government of <strong>China<\/strong> appears to deem Macao&#8217;s economy acceptable collateral damage of its &#8220;zero Covid&#8221; regimen &#8230; The <strong>Virginia<\/strong> Lege <a href=\"https:\/\/www.playusa.com\/norfolk-casino-moves-forward-richmond-paused\/\" class=\"broken_link\">continues to block<\/a> a popular vote on the <strong>Urban One<\/strong> casino intended for <strong>Richmond<\/strong>. Meanwhile, the temporary <strong>Norfolk<\/strong> iteration of the eventual <strong>Headwaters Resort &amp; Casino<\/strong> got the regulatory green light. It will be a &#8220;teaser&#8221; with 625 slots but no table games &#8230; Although the main event still lies ahead, <strong>Florida<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Seminole Tribe<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actionnetwork.com\/legal-online-sports-betting\/florida-sports-betting-still-in-limbo-after-federal-court-denies-appeal\" class=\"broken_link\">lost another appeal<\/a> of the thwarting of its efforts to offer sports betting in the Sunshine State &#8230; Finally, it doesn&#8217;t look good for sports betting in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> this year. Speaker of the House <strong>Ron Mariano<\/strong> (D) isn&#8217;t giving ground on his insistence on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalsportsreport.com\/70854\/house-speaker-questions-purpose-senate-ma-sports-betting-bill\/\" class=\"broken_link\">more problem-gambling money<\/a> and legalized wagering on collegiate sports.
