The only other casino to come close was <strong>Wind Creek Bethlehem<\/strong>, riding a 13.5% surge to $48 million. As for Parx&#8217;s competitors in the <strong>Philadelphia<\/strong> market, only <strong>Valley Forge Casino Resort<\/strong> was revenue-positive with $12 million (+2%). <strong>Rivers Philadelphia<\/strong> and <strong>Philadelphia Live<\/strong> were both in free fall, with Rivers having the worst of it, plunging 26% to $17 million, while Live dove 16.5% to $18 million. <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Philadelphia<\/strong>, despite an 11% tumble, actually found itself within striking distance of the downtown casinos with its $15 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Pittsburgh<\/strong> market, <strong>Rivers Pittsburgh<\/strong> led easily with $32 million (-3%), lapping <strong>Hollywood Meadows<\/strong>&#8216; $17.5 million (-2%) and <strong>Pittsburgh Live<\/strong>&#8216;s $10 million (flat). <strong>Penn Entertainment <\/strong>did better at The Meadows than at <strong>Penn National Race Course<\/strong>, which flopped -20.5% to $15.5 million. Despite a 5% decline, <strong>Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs<\/strong> led all non-metropolitan casinos with $19 million. Followers included <strong>Presque Isle Downs<\/strong> ($10 million, -15%), <strong>Mount Airy<\/strong> ($19 million, -5.5%) and <strong>Lady Luck Nemacolin<\/strong> ($2 million, -12.5%). It&#8217;s too soon for year-over-year comparisons at pint-sized <strong>Hollywood York<\/strong> ($8 million) and <strong>Hollywood Morgantown<\/strong> ($5 million).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sports betting operators garnered $33 million in win (less $8 million in promos) on $336.5 million of handle. <strong>FanDuel<\/strong>, with nearly half of market share, grossed $12 million. Then came <strong>DraftKings<\/strong> ($4.5 million), <strong>BetRivers<\/strong> ($2.5 million), <strong>Barstool Sports<\/strong> ($2 million) and <strong>BetMGM<\/strong> ($1 million). Insignificant amounts were made by <strong>Caesars Sportsbook<\/strong>, Parx and <strong>FoxBet<\/strong>. Internet casinos were more remunerative\u2014$98.5 million\u2014led by the <strong>Hollywood Casino<\/strong> conglomerate ($38.5 million) and BetRivers with $25 million. FanDuel was also in there swinging with $17.5 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Capitol-Hill.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15718\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Capitol-Hill.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Capitol-Hill-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Capitol-Hill-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">You know the golf courses and family clubs that members of the <strong>U.S. Armed Forces<\/strong> enjoy on-base? Guess who pays for them out of their own pocket? The men and women who serve in arms. This $100 million-a-year racket is paid for by the money that G.I. Joe &amp; Jane put into on-base slot machines, Uncle Sam being too cheap to pick up the tab. It&#8217;s not just in the U.S. but as far away as <strong>Diego Garcia<\/strong>. This <a href=\"https:\/\/ggbnews.com\/article\/npr-slots-on-overseas-u-s-military-bases-earn-100-million-per-year\/\">scandal-worthy policy<\/a> was rescinded during the <strong>Richard Nixon<\/strong> administration but reinstated under <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may be too young to gamble in <strong>Nevada<\/strong> but on Diego Garcia you can pull on 52 one-armed bandits. In short, Uncle Sam is getting them hooked while they&#8217;re young, funding army and naval amenities out of gambling-hooked service members (an above-average 4% prevalence rate). Sens. <strong>Steve Daines<\/strong> (R) and <strong>Elizabeth Warren<\/strong> (D) have tried to curb this baneful program but have met with little sympathy on Capitol Hill. Call your senator and ask them to do something to either unplug the slots or at least stop freeloading off our military members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Speaking of degenerates, former state senator <strong>Brent Waltz<\/strong> (R) has a date with the slammer, sentenced to 10 months for his role in an <strong>Indiana<\/strong> gambling scandal. Waltz was found guilty of lying to the <strong>FBI<\/strong> and of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/news\/politics\/articles\/2022-08-17\/ex-indiana-lawmaker-sentenced-in-casino-money-scheme\" class=\"broken_link\">funneling $40,000 in illegal campaign contributions<\/a> into his futile congressional campaign. The <em>sub rosa<\/em> money came courtesy of scandal-plagued <strong>Centaur Entertainment<\/strong>, a company so gamey it no longer exists. Waltz will have to repay the $40K with another $500 on top. Amazingly, for somebody who was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, Waltz said his biggest regret was the damage to his reputation. While bending over for the soap, he&#8217;ll meet a familiar face in Centaur shyster <strong>John Keeler<\/strong>, already doing a short stretch for his role in the conspiracy. A grand opening will be held next month but the dead-of-night debut <a href=\"http:\/\/www.egcitizen.com\/news\/sky-river-casino-is-now-open-in-elk-grove\/article_c38fcb3a-1db8-11ed-a87e-df1787892080.html\" class=\"broken_link\">was publicized via social media<\/a>. The $500 million, big-box casino was built by <strong>Boyd Gaming<\/strong>. Of the sneaky-Pete launch, <strong>Wilton Rancheria<\/strong> Chairman <strong>Jesus Tarango<\/strong> said, \u201cThat\u2019s what you get when you get a good partner with Boyd Gaming. They\u2019ve been in the game; they know how to do it.\u201d Evidently so &#8230; Across the country, <a href=\"https:\/\/wcyb.com\/news\/local\/construction-on-track-for-hard-rock-hotel-casino-bristol-president-allie-evangelista-old-bristol-mall-lucky-lady-gold-and-jewelry-exchange-scott-trotter-gate-city-highway-demolition-business\">questions are being raised<\/a> whether <strong>Hard Rock Bristol<\/strong> is still on schedule. Even so, the temporary casino took in $12 million last month &#8230; Another Hard Rock casino, <strong>Punta Cana<\/strong> in the <strong>Dominican Republic<\/strong>, has added a water park. Bring the kiddies when you gamble &#8230; <strong>Sands China<\/strong>\u2014whose <strong>Londoner<\/strong> megaresort is seen above\u2014is reeling from <strong>Covid-19<\/strong>, having racked up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asgam.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/15\/sands-china-losses-widen-to-us760-million-in-first-six-months-of-2022\/\" class=\"broken_link\">$760 million in losses<\/a> in the first six months of the year. By contrast, the same period in 2021 was &#8216;only&#8217; $381 million in the red. Said Sands gloomily, \u201cThe timing and manner in which our casinos, restaurants and shopping malls will resume operating at full capacity is currently unknown. We cannot predict the manner in which governments will react as the global and regional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic changes over time, which could significantly alter our current operations.\u201d Hell of a time to be being squeezed by <strong>Peking<\/strong> for still-bigger capital commitments &#8230; If you live in <strong>Ohio<\/strong>, pretty soon you&#8217;ll be able to <a href=\"https:\/\/progressivegrocer.com\/sure-bet-kroger-ohio\" class=\"broken_link\">have a flutter<\/a> when you shop at <strong>Kroger<\/strong>. The grocery giant has applied for 42 sports-betting kiosks across the Buckeye State. Not to be left behind, <strong>Acme Fresh Market<\/strong> is applying for 17 of its own.
