When consumer dollars are constricting, brand names prevail, obviously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">It looked as though sports-betting license approvals were going to go swimmingly in <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong> &#8230; until <strong>Barstool Sports<\/strong> came through the door. Its marketing push toward Generation Z was a particular subject of contention. &#8220;You&#8217;re gonna have a Barstool&#8217;s-branded sports bar on the premises, according to the proposition that you guys are putting forward,&#8221; bristled <strong>Massachusetts Gaming Commission<\/strong> member <strong>Eileen O&#8217;Brien<\/strong>. &#8221; I&#8217;m concerned about some of the historical marketing associated with Barstool.&#8221; Chairwoman <strong>Cathy Judd-Stein<\/strong> said that <strong>Penn Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s <em>non<\/em>-Barstool approach to the problem-gambling issue was &#8220;excellent.&#8221; She turned to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wgbh.org\/news\/local-news\/2022\/12\/06\/mass-gaming-commission-raises-red-flags-over-barstool-sports-ties-to-sports-betting-applicant\" class=\"broken_link\">the elephant in the room<\/a>, cretinous <strong>Dave Portnoy<\/strong>, by saying, &#8220;So now we have an obligation to reconcile what is very available publicly as to Barstool and really the significant personality attached to Barstool and what we&#8217;re gonna do about it as we think about this application.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"383\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/barstool.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-26842\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/barstool.jpg 383w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/barstool-150x88.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/barstool-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Penn attempted to finesse the Portnoy complaint, with Senior Vice President<strong> Erin Chamberlin<\/strong> saying Barstool&#8217;s handling of disordered gambling is &#8220;a very innovative approach to responsible gaming. It speaks to younger people in a different type of voice that I think resonates with them and really makes it stand out a little bit differently.&#8221; The Barstool kerfuffle delayed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2022\/12\/06\/barstool-sports-dave-portnoy-affiliation-slows-first-sports-betting-license-review\/\">but will probably not derail<\/a> <strong>Plainridge Park<\/strong>&#8216;s application for an OSB license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Opening arguments were heard yesterday in <strong>Pasadena<\/strong> in a RICO case against disgraced casino boss <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/business\/casinos-gaming\/appeals-court-hears-former-wynn-salon-managers-suit-against-steve-wynn-2689379\/\">hearing was procedura<\/a>l, as <strong>Angelica Limcaco<\/strong>, a former <strong>Wynncore<\/strong> employee, is seeking to have a lawsuit against <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong> executives and Wynn himself reinstated. Limcaco contends she was fired for blowing the whistle on Steve Wynn&#8217;s promiscuous sexual misconduct. Her lawsuit against the various and sundry Wynns was dismissed in April 2019, under somewhat dubious circumstances. The dismissal was handed by a colleague of federal magistrate judge <strong>Elayna Youchah<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/steve-wynn-rico-lawsuit-goes-to-court-december-6\/\">ruling on a motion Youchah had filed herself<\/a>), a former Wynn attorney who had been conveniently named to the bench at the urging of then-<strong>Nevada Assembly<\/strong> Speaker <strong>Barbara Buckley<\/strong> (D), herself a beneficiary of some Wynn Resorts campaign largesse. The whole affair has the faint odor of conspiracy\u2014too faint for the appeals court, which appeared very skeptical of Limcaco&#8217;s appeal. Mind you, Apollo execs <a href=\"https:\/\/cdcgaming.com\/nevada-gaming-commission-approves-apollo-dividend\/\">light their cigars<\/a> with $11 million but the gesture is tangible, appreciated and a major step in the right direction. \u201cIt\u2019s my great honor to lead this spectacular group of team members into the bright future ahead of us,\u201d said CEO <strong>Patrick Nichols<\/strong>, who was moonlighting as Santa Claus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">In yet another real estate move, <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> has forked over $55 million for 67 acres that will be part of its long-bruited &#8220;Losee Station&#8221; (they&#8217;ll come up with a better name, surely) project on the <strong>North Las Vegas<\/strong> beltway. In the past, Station has leapfrogged far ahead of residential development, which is why <strong>Aliante Station<\/strong> failed. <a href=\"https:\/\/cdcgaming.com\/brief\/station-casinos-buys-more-land-for-55m-plans-another-resort-in-north-las-vegas\/\">Not so this time<\/a>. The 600-room resort will be part of the <strong>Tule Springs<\/strong> residential master plan, one that will offer numerous amenities in addition to a casino (and possibly a <strong>Wildfire<\/strong>-branded tavern, judging by the disclosure).
