“Mmm-hm,” muttered a Tropicana Las Vegas<\/strong> official when I asked if the exhibit which will be taking up half the newly vacated Trop pavilion (former indoor tennis courts that look like an airplane hangar) was indeed Antoinette Giancana<\/strong>‘s long-mooted Mafia museum. So Mayor Oscar Goodman<\/strong>‘s pet project for downtown will have some serious South Strip competition, after all. Now if only copies of Ms. Giancana’s February 1987 Playboy<\/em> spread were to be on sale in the gift shop …<\/p>\n

(CBS-TV<\/strong>‘s Let’s Make a Deal<\/em> has has scuttled back to Los Angeles, after less then nine months of production at the Trop. For this we lost Guiding Light<\/em>?)<\/p>\n

MGM Mirage is rolling out<\/strong> a new online booking engine that’s multilingual: Italian, Spanish, French, German, Japanese … but not Chinese. At least not yet. (Korean and Portugese are also in the works.) A Kirvin-Doak<\/strong> spokesman says that Chinese-language booking is available at the individual Bellagio<\/strong> and MGM Grand<\/strong> Web sites but “The order in which … foreign language booking engines were developed and launched is based on the volume of Web site traffic coming from each area<\/em>.” Hey, China<\/strong>, aren’t you carrying this Internet-crackdown a little too far? What about all those Chinese whose life’s dream is to stay at Circus Circus<\/strong>? Lighten up a little.<\/p>\n

Speaking of the Green Monster<\/strong>, its four-wall presentation of execrable<\/a> Girls Night<\/em> has been held over through May 3o. Overbearing as the show is, this makes good sense. What’s the point of yanking it from Studio 54<\/strong> just prior to Memorial Day weekend? If it was already doing good business on a regular Sunday in May, just think how much better a holiday weekend will be.
