(<strong>Mason-Dixon<\/strong> has her third, <strong>Daily Kos<\/strong> places her second.) If this data bears out, rarely will anyone have gone from Anointed One to also-ran in such spectacular fashion, <a href=\"http:\/\/dullardmush.blogspot.com\/2010\/06\/was-it-j3-strategies-that-screwed.html?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+DullardMush+(Dullard+Mush)&amp;utm_content=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\">almost entirely through self-inflicted wounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(<em>Interesting historical footnote<\/em>: In his previous incarnation as a Nevada Gaming Commissioner, Sen. <strong>Harry Reid<\/strong> [D-NV] <a href=\"http:\/\/slashpolitics.lvcitylife.com\/2010\/06\/reid-sue-lowden-is-honest\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">gave his blessing to a Lowden-led casino takeover<\/a>, despite suspicions that the deal was mobbed up.)<\/p>\n<p>However, one must consider the possibility that Lowden was hexed from the moment when, in his <em>Face to Face<\/em> debut, <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> CEO <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> gave her his explicit endorsement. Nevada candidacies backed by the CEO have a high mortality rate, dating<!--more--> back to <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=bNnYnf9KoWQC&amp;pg=PA123&amp;lpg=PA123&amp;dq=sheldon+adelson+clark+county+commission&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=j6FGCx8xwT&amp;sig=iQaZWCWk19GasaCAweGZxu4bjRk&amp;hl=en&amp;ei=OmgNTPKGNI20Nr2mmLYE&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=book_result&amp;ct=result&amp;resnum=7&amp;ved=0CCkQ6AEwBjge#v=onepage&amp;q=sheldon adelson clark county commission&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\">an Adelson-funded attempt to flip three<\/a> <strong>Clark County Commission<\/strong> seats. Sheldon went 0-3, setting a pattern that would continue nigh unto 12 years. (With perfect hindsight, two of the commissioners Adelson was trying to unseat <em>should<\/em> have been voted out &#8212; but the depth and breadth of corruption on the commission wouldn&#8217;t be &#8220;outed&#8221; for six more years.)<\/p>\n<p>Not knowing when to quit, Adelson <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">foolishly wasted<\/span> prudently invested 20 grand of corporate money this year on the foredoomed reelection campaign of Gov. <strong>Jim Gibbons<\/strong>. In future, candidates who see Big Shel drawing near bearing cash &#8212; or even just his verbal benediction &#8212; should run as far and fast in the opposite direction as their legs can carry them.
