OK, so it&#8217;s in Dodge City, Kansas, but we&#8217;ll take good news wherever we can get it these days. Whoever thought avionics firm <strong>Butler National<\/strong> would be the sole casino bidder to make good on its Sunflower State commitment?<\/p>\n<p><strong>How quickly we forget<\/strong> that the original plans for <strong>Red Rock Resort<\/strong> called for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvbusinesspress.com\/articles\/2006\/04\/10\/news\/news05.txt\">three condo-hotel towers<\/a>. <strong>Station Casinos<\/strong> was feeling its oats back then, thinking big even as it projected only single-digit ROI at Red Rock as far out as 2011 or longer. Overconfident much?<\/p>\n<p><strong>They like us. They really, really like us<\/strong>. Casinos in <strong>Southern Nevada<\/strong> feeling the recession&#8217;s pinch are suddenly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2009\/apr\/16\/new-campaign-targets-locals-casino-deals\">overflowing with newfound lurve<\/a> for area customers, long taken for granted. Satellites like <strong>Primm<\/strong> and <strong>Mesquite<\/strong> weren&#8217;t any great shakes during Vegas&#8217; halcyon years. Why you&#8217;d go out there now when oligopolists <strong>Herbst Gaming<\/strong> and <strong>Black Gaming<\/strong> have helped run their respective markets into the ground is difficult to fathom. (Primm, at least, has a good outlet mall. Mesquite &#8230; not so much.) Oh, and what&#8217;s wrong with this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/photos\/2009\/apr\/16\/29331\">&#8220;Stay and Play Here&#8221; graphic<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goodman one-ups Adelson<\/strong>. Although he&#8217;s never exuded warm fuzzies toward the <strong>Culinary Union<\/strong>, neither has &#8212; to my knowledge &#8212; <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> called his longtime adversary &#8220;evil.&#8221; So Mayor <strong>Oscar Goodman<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/news\/breaking_news\/43065512.html\">stepped into the breach<\/a> &#8212; or stepped in something. As for the Culinary, it&#8217;s got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2009\/apr\/16\/has-labor-visionary-crossed-line\">much bigger problems<\/a> to worry about.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any company that planned<\/strong> an ultra-high-end <strong>Elvis Presley<\/strong>-themed resort (a conceptual disconnect if ever I heard one) doesn&#8217;t have both oars in the water. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/news\/2009\/apr\/14\/company-planned-strip-properties-may-seek-bankrupt\">This one<\/a> doesn&#8217;t have money in the bank, either, and may soon have its Strip parcel sold right out from under it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Las Vegas&#8217; best low-cost attraction<\/strong> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lasvegassun.com\/blogs\/kats-report\/2009\/apr\/16\/pinball-hall-fame-owner-wants-ring-elton-johns-bel\">on the move<\/a>, down the road to 1610 E.
