Ms. Electra, late of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/vacationplanner-showdetail.cfm?ShowID=108\" target=\"_self\" class=\"broken_link\">MGM Grand&#8217;s Crazy Horse Paris<\/a><\/em>, has defected to <strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong>. On June 4, she&#8217;ll participate in the inaugural performance at <strong>Pussycat Dolls Burlesque Saloon<\/strong>. Hopefully it will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcdsaloon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">at least as exciting as its Web site<\/a>. Chalk up another coup for PCD founder <strong>Robin Antin<\/strong>, who&#8217;s managed to keep one-trick ponies like the aforesaid Dolls and <strong>Matt Goss<\/strong> cantering long after their legs should have given way. It&#8217;s debuting the <strong>PBR Rock Bar &amp; Grill<\/strong> on June 19 in <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"><strong>Desert Passage<\/strong><\/span> <strong>Miracle Mile Shops<\/strong>. Fathers ride free aboard the bull that day, so if you&#8217;re carrying a grudge against your Pop, you can repay him with a brief bucking from the mechanical bronco, followed by an undignified landing upon his <em>tuchus<\/em> &#8230; or worse. And for those who think &#8220;Family Vegas&#8221; is dead and gone, another opening-night feature is comped meals for kids (age unspecified). The gaming world paid little notice to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gamingtoday.com\/industry\/article\/30789-Pioneers_among_America_s_casino_developers_died_last_week\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">the passing<\/a> of Don Barden, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/20\/business\/20barden.html\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">a self-made tycoon<\/a> and cable-TV mogul who had a love-hate relationship with the casino industry. Barden&#8217;s mid-life swerve into gaming went well initially but swiftly unraveled after he overspent on <strong>Rivers Casino<\/strong> in <strong>Pittsburgh<\/strong>, literally running out of money in mid-construction. (<strong>Neil Bluhm<\/strong> bought out most of Barden&#8217;s stake and finished the $800 million leviathan.) By the end, his <strong>Majestic Star<\/strong> company was bankrupt and Barden had lost four-fifths of his casino mini-empire.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6756\" title=\"fitz-pic2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/fitz-pic2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/fitz-pic2.jpg 299w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/fitz-pic2-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/>Barden&#8217;s place in history as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.freep.com\/article\/20110520\/BUSINESS06\/105200406\/Don-Barden-set-milestones-African-American-businessman?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|p\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">the first African-American casino owner in Vegas history<\/a> was diminished by his neglect of <strong>Fitzgeralds<\/strong>, purchased with great fanfare in 2001 After that &#8230; Barden&#8217;s visibility dropped. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvbusinesspress.com\/articles\/2006\/02\/23\/breaking_news\/01news.txt\" target=\"_blank\">Big plans were announced<\/a>, then forgotten. Today, the interior of the property epitomizes &#8220;stale&#8221; and its exterior is in shocking disrepair. The unraveling of Barden&#8217;s casino business gives the lie to his 2004 proclamation that &#8220;I got screwed and [Detroit] got screwed&#8221; when lost a potential gambling concession to then-<strong>MGM Grand<\/strong>, who Barden tried to run out of town behind the guise of a religious group. If you&#8217;ve been to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/referenceguide-locationdetail.cfm?LocationID=21\" target=\"_self\">Fitzgeralds<\/a> and to <strong>MGM Grand Detroit<\/strong>, you can judge for yourself what Barden would have brought to Motown and how &#8220;screwed&#8221; the city actually was.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6757\" title=\"barden\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/barden-105x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/barden-105x150.jpg 105w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/barden-210x300.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/barden.jpg 281w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 105px) 100vw, 105px\" \/>In a Greek-tragedy twist<\/strong>, the fractious Barden spent his latter days exiled to a hotel room, wrangling with his estranged wife over control of his businesses. He won&#8217;t even be allowed to rest in peace, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.detnews.com\/article\/20110523\/METRO01\/105230400\/1409\/METRO\/Don-Barden\u2019s-sister-sues-his-estranged-wife-over-funeral-plans\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">family members are battling over the funeral arrangements<\/a>. While trying to raise money to finish Rivers Casino, Barden peddled his downtown Vegas casino but found no takers. It future lies in the courtroom, where a judge will decide <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/article\/20110522\/FREE\/305229979\/prenup-complicates-barden-estate-courts-likely-to-decide-who-gets#\" target=\"_blank\">who gets which pieces of the Barden empire<\/a>.
