For instance, through Oct. 27, you can experience the indoor Vegas panoramas of Angela Bellamy<\/strong> (above<\/em>) at the Charleston Heights Arts Center<\/strong> (not far from Arizona Charlie’s Decatur<\/strong>). If you’re in Chinatown<\/strong> … or as simply willing to venture a few blocks west from Treasure Island<\/strong>, Venelazzo<\/strong> and Wynncore<\/strong>, the studio series at Las Vegas Little Theatre<\/strong> is presenting Jennifer Haley<\/strong>‘s violent, video game-inspired Neighborhood III: Requisition of Doom<\/em> (Oct. 21-Nov. 6) and Sarah Ruhl<\/strong>‘s Dead Man’s Cell Phone<\/em> (Dec. 2-18).<\/p>\n

\"\"The impresario behind the Broadway series<\/a> at Green Valley Ranch<\/strong> is Andrew Wright<\/strong>. His producing outfit, RagTag Entertainment<\/strong> presents Smokey Joe’s Caf\u00e9<\/em> at Ovation<\/strong>, Sept. 13-27, followed by Sweeney Todd<\/em> on Tuesdays in October, with the remainder of the 2011 slate still to be announced. Now through Sept. 17, you can catch Eugene Ionesco<\/strong>‘s farcical The Chairs<\/em> (pictured) at The Box Office<\/strong>, tucked away on Casino Center Drive, a stone’s throw from the iconic White Cross<\/strong> drugstore. Chairs<\/em> director Ruth Pe Palileo<\/strong> is something of a genius<\/a> and Vegas is having to vie with Chicago<\/strong> and Cleveland<\/strong> for her talents, which have extended to staging cast-of-dozens extravaganzas at Palace Station<\/strong> and the pirate place. (Apropos of nada, nothing says “public radio” quite like haughty high-fashion chicks<\/a> in a vineyard, does it?)<\/p>\n

\"\"Broadway 2, Adelson 0<\/strong>. Cranky old mogul Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> (who’s rumored to have screwed mid-level employees of out of bonuses last year, even though they’d hit their benchmarks) has cut off his nose to spite his face twice over. Mike Weatherford<\/strong> has the gruesome details in the Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em>, but the bottom line is that MGM Resorts International<\/strong> has landed Blue Man Group<\/strong><\/a>, which will take up residency at Monte Carlo<\/strong>. Also profiting from Las Vegas Sands<\/strong>‘ stinginess is Caesars Entertainment<\/strong>, which has stolen Palazzo<\/strong>‘s marquee attraction Jersey Boys<\/em><\/a>. The Frankie Valli<\/strong> musical will set up shop at Paris-Las Vegas<\/strong> early next year, Barry Manilow<\/strong> having taken the hex off the showroom.<\/p>\n

This is a huge loss for Palazzo<\/strong> and an incredible coup for Gary Loveman<\/strong>. Adelson has just handed him and Jim Murren<\/strong> free money on an engraved silver platter. Letting Jersey Boys<\/em> walk will leave a gaping vacancy Venelazzo execs will be hard-pressed to fill, especially with Broadway shows currently being steered into Downtown’s Smith Center for the Performing Arts<\/strong> (or, as I think of it in the wake of the Clint Holmes<\/strong> bombshell<\/a>, “Smithcoast<\/strong>“).
