Yup, good old <strong>Las Vegas<\/strong>, where real estate values have totally cratered and employment isn&#8217;t looking so hot, either. Any talk of recovery on the Strip looks somewhat relative when placed in the context of what irresponsible developers and borrowers <a href=\" http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/56d4b27c-c9b3-11e0-b88b-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1WeL4aYoL\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">have done to the local economy<\/a>. The long stretches of empty storefronts and foreclosed homes off of <strong>Las Vegas Boulevard<\/strong> look like <!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/the-15-most-miserable-countries-in-the-world-2011-6#11-turkey-5\" target=\"_blank\">something out of the Third World<\/a>. &#8220;Growth pays for itself,&#8221; huh? &#8220;Build it and they will come,&#8221; will they?<\/p>\n<p>Also high on the misery index are two major satellite markets for casinos (<strong>New Orleans<\/strong> and <strong>Detroit<\/strong>), several Las Vegas and <strong>Reno<\/strong> &#8220;feeder&#8221; markets, and <em>seven<\/em> <strong>Florida<\/strong> cities. That last fact ought to both act as a spur to Sunshine State casino development &#8212; i.e., job creation &#8212; and put a brake on runaway revenue projections for aforesaid casinos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guess which city tops the misery index, according to BusinessInsider.com?
