It promptly banned <a href=\"http:\/\/Philippines House Committee on Games and Amusements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">&#8230; <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong><\/a>. This comical, &#8220;circle the wagons&#8221; reaction witlessly validates Wynn&#8217;s indictment. Ditto the business-as-usual defense PAGCOR Chairman <strong>Cristino L. Naguiat Jr<\/strong>. offers for taking comps at <strong>Wynn Macau<\/strong>: &#8216;standard practice.&#8217; If that&#8217;s the case, the Filipino government needs to get a new set of standards.<br \/>\nOkada apologist <strong>Bill Beatty<\/strong> sounds completely out to lunch when he proposes that PAGCOR&#8217;s 2015 opening of <strong>Entertainment City<\/strong> will shoot the <strong>Philippines<\/strong> past <strong>Macao<\/strong> and <strong>Singapore<\/strong>, into global primacy as a gambling destination. Compared to Macao&#8217;s $3.1 billion gross in January (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2012-03-02\/sands-china-profit-beats-estimates-on-jump-in-macau-casino-sales.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">and comparable February<\/a>), PAGCOR&#8217;s $78 million haul looks pretty feeble. Since <strong>Universal Entertainment<\/strong>&#8216;s $2 billion project at Entertainment City rolls merrily along, <strong>Manila<\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;official investigation&#8221; has the appearance of a charade to cover <!--more-->PAGCOR&#8217;s butt. Naguiat isn&#8217;t even required to take a leave of absence while this imbroglio plays itself out. For Wynn, the biggest worry may be whether he broke Macao&#8217;s Personal Data Protection Act by disclosing Naguiat&#8217;s little Macanese spree.<\/p>\n<p>However, with both <strong>Nevada<\/strong> courts and the <strong>SEC<\/strong> pondering<em> l&#8217;affaire Okada<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/03\/03\/business\/wynn-resorts-partners-split-and-accusations-fly.html?_r=2&amp;nl=todaysheadlines&amp;emc=tha25&amp;pagewanted=all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Wynn would stand to lose at home<\/a> if he hushed the junket up. As for whether VIP players in Macao will now start to shun Wynn, for fear of being outed, the next few months&#8217; revenue reports ought to tell that tale. But for the contention that Wynn be &#8220;pleading for mercy in the coming years&#8221; from PAGCOR, the only sane response is a gale of hysterical laughter. And, after seeing Wynn strung up by a kangaroo court, U.S. operators will be even leerier of a nation &#8220;whose reputation is questionable even by Asian gaming standards,&#8221; quoth the <em>New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This brawl has many amusements<\/strong>, such as the effort by Wynn and Okada partisans alike to dispel <!--more-->the bromance image the two tycoons worked so hard to confect. Also, Naguiat&#8217;s high-roller suite at Wynn Macau included a shower big enough for <em>six<\/em> people. Maybe we should just drop the hygienic pretense and call it a &#8220;private orgy chamber.&#8221; Then there was the &#8220;Yes, we did &#8230; uh, no we didn&#8217;t&#8221; pratfall involving another false proclamation that <strong>Wynn Cotai<\/strong> was a &#8220;go.&#8221; Luckily, no insider transactions took place <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/46604207\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">during the ensuing bounce<\/a> in WYNN shares, or else Wynn Resorts really <em>would<\/em> find itself &#8220;pleading for mercy&#8221; &#8212; from Uncle Sam.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-5160\" title=\"MGM-R_jpg_445x1000_upscale_q85\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/MGM-R_jpg_445x1000_upscale_q85-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/MGM-R_jpg_445x1000_upscale_q85-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/MGM-R_jpg_445x1000_upscale_q85-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/MGM-R_jpg_445x1000_upscale_q85.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Not to be outdone<\/strong> by Wynn in the race for <strong>Massachusetts<\/strong>, suitor <strong>MGM Resorts International<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2012\/03\/mgm_resorts_unveils_website_ab.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">has launched its own charm offensive<\/a>. (To be pedantic, MGM and Wynn aren&#8217;t competing for the same license but they&#8217;re both engaged in high-profile courtship.) MGM has opened a local office, set up an informational phone line <a href=\"http:\/\/mgmrollinghills.com\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">and created a Web site<\/a> for its proposed, &#8220;sustainable&#8221; casino. Soon it will be publishing a newsletter, too. The Web site isn&#8217;t glitch-free &#8212; the topographical PDF hasn&#8217;t been correctly linked &#8212; but the lion is putting its best paw forward. However, in the battle of the balance sheets (a criterion for licensing), <strong>Ameristar Casinos<\/strong> still has the edge. <strong>Penn National Gaming<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t settled upon a site, <strong>Mohegan Sun<\/strong>&#8216;s Palmer project is an transparent stalking horse for the parent property in <strong>Connecticut<\/strong> and <strong>Hard Rock International<\/strong>\/<strong>Paper City Development<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/news\/index.ssf\/2012\/02\/holyoke_debates_casino_gamblin.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">is butting heads<\/a> with <strong>Holyoke<\/strong>&#8216;s mayor. Right now, it looks like it&#8217;s Ameristar&#8217;s game to lose.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6325\" title=\"Horizon Vicksburg\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Horizon-Vicksburg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Horizon-Vicksburg.jpg 210w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Horizon-Vicksburg-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/>It&#8217;s been from bad to worse<\/strong> for the former <strong>Harrah&#8217;s Entertainment<\/strong> riverboat in <strong>Vicksburg<\/strong>. <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">When it went private,<\/span> Harrah&#8217;s offloaded the boat to skinflint <strong>Columbia Sussex<\/strong>. The latter&#8217;s <strong>Tropicana Entertainment<\/strong> subsidiary went bankrupt, but not before then-CEO <strong>Scott Butera<\/strong> had scuttled a $35 million sale to <strong>Nevada Gold<\/strong>. TropEnt was taken over by <strong>Carl Icahn<\/strong> and eventually palmed the casino off on ultra-obscure <strong>Tangent Gaming<\/strong> (for a pitiful and puny $3.25 million). Tangent renamed this ship of fools <em>Grand Station<\/em>. In less than a year, Tangent &#8212; <em>aka<\/em> <strong>Delta Investments &amp; Development<\/strong> &#8212; is being foreclosed upon by <strong>Bally Technologies<\/strong> for $3 million worth of slot machines and other equipment. The ex-<em>Harrah&#8217;s Vicksburg<\/em> is clearly an ill-starred vessel.
