Seems that the City of Evansville has informed the <b>Columbia Sussex<\/b> subsidiary that it&#8217;s defaulted on certain terms of its lease with Evansville (including minority-hiring obligations). That sale of <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.casinoaztar.com\" class=\"broken_link\">Casino Aztar<\/a><\/b> to the Caranos undoubtedly can&#8217;t close fast enough, bringing an end to 16 months (and counting) of recriminations along the Ohio River.<\/p>\n<p><b>Spoke too soon?<\/b> Did I say that the year-old <b>T<\/b><b>ropicana Casinos &amp; Resort <\/b>(TCR)<b>\u00a0<\/b>Web site was finally finished? <a href=\"http:\/\/tropicanacasinos.com\/grouppage.php?newtype=resort\" class=\"broken_link\">Wrong again<\/a>.\u00a0At least it&#8217;s easier on the eyes than the brutal-looking Columbia Sussex <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbiasussex.com\/cscbybrand.lasso\" class=\"broken_link\">Web site<\/a>, a relic of the Pleistocene Era of Web design.<\/p>\n<p><b>About that Chapter 11 filing<\/b>. During yesterday&#8217;s taping of the next <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vegasgangpodcast.com\">&#8220;Vegas Gang&#8221; podcast<\/a>, we were under the impression that the Tropicana default took the company by surprise. But <a href=\"http:\/\/tropicanacasinos.com\/restructuring.php\" class=\"broken_link\">lookee here<\/a>. Could ColSux have been planning this move long in advance? <i>Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>If you&#8217;re a vendor<\/b> and made delivery before Cinco de Mayo, take a number and go to the back of the line. (See FAQs #1 &amp; 2; most of the others are just boilerplate happy talk.)<\/p>\n<p><b>The Trop Has Two Daddies<\/b>. If a company has <a href=\"http:\/\/tropicanacasinos.com\/management.php\" class=\"broken_link\">two presidents<\/a>, which one is really calling the shots? Just wondering.<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8220;Why,&#8221;<\/b> you might ask, &#8220;are certain casinos\u00a0excluded from the Chapter 11 filing?&#8221; Good question. The <b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tropicana.net\">Atlantic City Tropicana<\/a><\/b> is under trusteeship of the State of New Jersey (and I&#8217;ll bet the <b>New Jersey Casino Control Commission<\/b> is real happy it didn&#8217;t return the property to Columbia Sussex, as requested by CEO <b>William J. Yung<\/b> III and trustee <b>Gary Stein<\/b> a few weeks ago).<\/p>\n<p>The <b>Westin Casuarina<\/b> in Las Vegas and the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ameliabellecasino.com\">Amelia Belle<\/a><\/i> riverboat (above) are owned by Tropicana Entertainment CEO Yung&#8217;s TCR. Tropicana Entertainment is a discrete subsidiary of TCR, separated by a pair of holding companies. (And, just to make matters even more opaque, the <i>Amelia Belle<\/i> is scheduled to be swapped out with the <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.belleofbatonrouge.com\">Belle of Baton Rouge<\/a><\/i>, which <i>is<\/i> part of the Chapter 11 proceeding; I wonder how their respective parishes will sort that one out?)<\/p>\n<p>As for Greenville, Miss.&#8217;s <b>Lighthouse Point Casino<\/b>, it&#8217;s severally owned. One percent is held by Yung personally, 79% by Tropicana Entertainment and one of its subsidiaries, and 20% by unrelated third party <b>Rainbow Entertainment<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><b>I apologize<\/b> for not being able to share the Columbia Sussex corporate chart with you.
