Sorry, folks, I had to stop that video so I could have a laugh when he boasted, &#8220;<strong>Caesars<\/strong> [<strong>Entertainment<\/strong>] stands for the ultimate in destination luxury resorts?&#8221; Since <em>when<\/em>? A bunch of forward-looking fellas with names like <strong>Steve Wynn<\/strong>, <strong>Sheldon Adelson<\/strong> and the pioneering <strong>Kirk Kerkorian<\/strong> had left <strong>Caesars Palace<\/strong> in the dust long before Loveman bought the place, at a time when it was on its uppers. Once Loveman&#8217;s ego enters a room, there&#8217;s precious little space for anything else. But I digress &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"450\" height=\"315\" codebase=\"https:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/v\/Pd5PBLt-wqw?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"450\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube-nocookie.com\/v\/Pd5PBLt-wqw?version=3&amp;hl=en_US\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/news\/regional\/view\/20220605suffolk_downs_unveils_casino_renderings\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">the big dog-and-pony show<\/a> for <strong>Suffolk Downs Park<\/strong>, starring Loveman and <strong>Richard &#8220;Coastal Marina&#8221; Fields<\/strong>. Architect <strong>David Manfredi<\/strong> claimed the $1 billion design was &#8220;from that tradition of Caesars &#8230; embracing the guest,&#8221; which is an audacious bit of revisionist history. That aesthetic is pure <!--more-->Wynn and he endured a fair amount of male-chauvinist sniggering when <strong>Bellagio<\/strong> and <strong>Beau Rivage<\/strong> were rolled out, with industry old-timers deriding the designs as &#8220;feminine.&#8221; (Wynn execs replied that, yes, they were, because the woman usually chooses the hotel when a couple goes on vacation.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9186\" title=\"SD casinoentry\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/SD-casinoentry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/SD-casinoentry.jpg 315w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/SD-casinoentry-150x130.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/SD-casinoentry-300x261.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 315px) 100vw, 315px\" \/>In terms of casino size (200K sq. ft.) and hotel rooms (300), overlooking a <strong>Target<strong> <\/strong><\/strong>store and a scenic oil-tank farm, the Suffolk Downs resort would be just a bit bigger than the casino-hotel at <strong><strong><strong>Sands Bethlehem<\/strong>. <\/strong><\/strong>However,<strong><strong> <strong>Las Vegas Sands<\/strong> <\/strong><\/strong>also built a number of major amenities too &#8212; convention center, outlet mall, concert venue &#8212; and stayed below the $1 billion mark, to the best of our knowledge. The Caesars CEO is predicting gambling business (of which his company will get a 20%) will be well beyond capacity once the casino opens and, with bankruptcy breathing down his neck, he&#8217;d better be right.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-8133\" title=\"Loveman_x220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Loveman_x220.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Loveman_x220.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.lasvegasadvisor.com\/stiffs-and-georges\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Loveman_x220-119x150.jpg 119w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/>Loveman bloviated<\/strong> <\/strong><\/strong>about going &#8220;where you&#8217;re wanted,&#8221; in a snide jab aimed at <strong>Wynn Resorts<\/strong>. But if he expects to be hailed as civic savior <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bostonherald.com\/news\/regional\/view\/20220606suffolk_downs_1b_plans_met_with_strong_opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">he&#8217;s in for a rude surprise<\/a>. Since the parimutuel sits astride both <strong>East Boston<\/strong> and <strong>Revere<\/strong>, there&#8217;s a territorial dispute: <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bostonherald.com\/news\/opinion\/editorials\/view\/20220606suffolk_goes_all_in\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"broken_link\">The former will get all the sales-tax goodies<\/a> (hotel, casino, restaurants) while the latter has &#8230; parking lots and horse poop. Fields is making noises about cutting a side deal with Revere or at least being willing to &#8220;hear what their concerns are.&#8221; Finally, if you view those video clips in full-screen mode, you will notice a &#8220;Caesars&#8221; logo on the casino park of &#8220;The Resort at Suffolk Downs.&#8221; How much do you want to be that Loveman pulls a bait-and-switch, and substitutes the &#8220;Horseshoe&#8221; brand before we know it? After all, &#8220;Caesars&#8221; is such a valuable brand it must be reserved for cities with burgeoning casino industries and tremendous growth upside &#8230; like <strong>Windsor<\/strong>, <strong>Ontario<\/strong> and <strong>Atlantic City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>(<em>Editor&#8217;s note<\/em>: Unfortunately, over half this blog posting &#8212; dealing with the <strong>Mashpee Wampanoags<\/strong> and continuing developments in <strong>Illinois<\/strong> &#8212; was destroyed by a computer glitch and I haven&#8217;t time to reconstruct it.
