Mike FriedmanWell, maybe IHG is listening to me. In the past, I’ve always been puzzled by IHG promotions that seemed to reward the people who stay with them the least. This time around, though, they’ve changed their minds. The more you stay with them, the better it gets, including up to a quadruple points bonus. This promotion is actually a very good one.
Haven’t heard of IHG? Actually, you have, but you probably know them better by their most popular brands, such as InterContinental and Holiday Inn.
The Fine Print to The IHG Promotion
The fine print is minimal. The IHG promotion is good for stays from February 15 until April 15, and you must register (Earn up to 4x Bonus Points every night) to earn up to 4x Bonus Points every night. Also, in order for your stay to qualify, you must spend at least $30.
Hotel Promotion – How IHG’s 4X2020 Works

The IHG promotion this quarter is based on the number of nights that you stay during the promotion period. In particular:
- For your first night, you’ll earn 1,000 bonus points.
- Nights 2-5? Earn 2X bonus points, up to 100,000
- Nights 6-14 will get you triple bonus points, up to 100,000
- And finally, at 15+, you’ll get quadruple bonus points, again with a maximum of 100,000.
In total, you can earn up to 301,000 bonus points total, with 100,000 at each level above in addition to the initial 1,000. It’s difficult to generate those numbers on the lower levels, of course, but it’s possible.
Note that the bonus points limits do not include any extra points that you may get for elite status. I value IHG points at a minimum of 0.5 cents each, so the potential bonus is worth at least $1,500.
Even More Points with the IHG Credit Card!
A few weeks ago, I noted that IHG had increased its initial credit card sign-up bonus to 140,000 points, which is just in silly territory. But your card will get you two other benefits that will grant you extra points:
- The credit card will give you 10 points for every dollar that you spend at an IHG property (in addition to the 10 base points that IHG gives you)
- The credit card also gets you Platinum Status, which gives you an additional five points per dollar spent at the hotel.
Add those into the IHG promotion points and you’ll get, well, a lot of points.

Overall, this is one of the better promotions (4x Bonus Points every night – If you are asked for a promotion code use promotion code: 63881) that I’ve seen. If I were traveling a lot during the quarter, I’d definitely consider it.
