A couple of weeks ago, we discussed an Alaska Airlines promotion that offered double miles and great fares on transcontinental routes. We noted in the article that Alaska was trying to win back share from JetBlue, who had recently merged with Virgin America. Now, we’re seeing retribution in the form of JetBlue west coast fare deals.

JetBlue West Coast Fare Sale

One way, not more than $99

With Alaska invading JetBlue’s territory, the carrier responded by going after Alaska’s bread and butter: the west coast. I received an email three days ago that JetBlue was retaliating with a fare sale centered around Los Angeles, including six flights up and down the coast. In addition to LAX, JetBlue also operates out of Long Beach, one of the more civilized airports in the world. The JetBlue west coast fare deals runs from July 23 to October 29 and no fare is above $99 one-way.

Alaska Air Passengers Will Benefit

Given JetBlue’s cost structure, they’re going to make it difficult for Alaska on those routes. Alaska will have no choice but to match. That’s an added bonus for Alaska Air passengers. Not only will they get to fly their preferred airline but they will also be able to do so at a discount!

Fare sales may not be good for the airlines, but they work out quite well for the passengers.
