Michael TragerThe folks at Loyalty Lobby just brought to our attention a new M life Promotion that runs through October 10, 2019. It’s a “Double Up” promotion that earns you both M life Rewards Tier Credits and Hyatt Base Points. Our focus in on the M life Rewards Tier Credits.
During the promotional period, you will earn eight M life Rewards Tier Credits for each eligible dollar you spend at Hyatt Properties. You will also earn five World of Hyatt Base Points; hence, the name “Double Up.”
Good Deal? “Double Up” M life Promotion with Hyatt
Is this a good deal? I do not find this offer particularly compelling, but there might be some folks who have planned Hyatt stays and need a “bump” to their next M life tier level. You could earn M life Pearl with $3,125 spend at Hyatt Properties. This would only be realistic if you already expected to be staying and spending at a Hyatt. This spend (“eligible dollars”) should also include the room rate at the Hyatt properties.
Personally, it would be more effective to match to M life Gold (yearly and ongoing at Borgata Atlantic City). If you need something to “match” to M life Gold, be sure to see our recent article on using hotel status matches (even if you do not have hotel status) to match to Caesars Diamond.
Some things to keep in mind:
- You’ll earn eight M life Rewards Tier Credits, plus five World of Hyatt Base Points for each eligible dollar you spend when you stay between August 18, 2019, and October 10, 2019.
- For the purpose of this promotion, an “eligible stay” is defined as any stay where a member is paying an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award for at least one night of their stay.
- Only the room occupied by the Member will count toward this promotion.
- You must provide your World of Hyatt membership number at the time of check-in and choose World of Hyatt points for each stay.
M life Tier Credit Year
M life tier credit year expiry is on September 30 each year. This promotion overlaps two M life Rewards tier earning years. If you need M life Rewards Tier Credits for this year, be sure about when your Hyatt eligible stays occur.
- M life Tier Credits earned for eligible stays completed with a checkout date between August 18 and September 25 will be deposited in your account the week of September 29.
- M life Tier Credits earned for stays completed with a checkout date between September 26 and October 10 will be deposited in your account the week of October 14.
Value of M life Tiers
I am quite conflicted about the value of M life Tier Levels. M life Pearl and M life Gold does get you free parking. MGM does not waive resort fees (like Caesars Rewards) as a tier benefit at any tier level. This is a big negative with regard to the program. Consistent national access to VIP Lounges is another negative, though Borgata Atlantic City has one of the best MGM M life casino VIP lounges (Amphora) in the USA. As a tier benefit, each M life Platinum Member will receive one cruise for two people per year. But, Platinum requires 200,00 tier credits. The jump from M life Gold (75,000 tier credits) to Platinum hardly seems worth it. Of course, casino customers receive marketing offers based on play which vary widely. Tier Benefits that are not super-valuable is one of my constant gripes about how casino loyalty programs are broken.
There is never harm in signing up for these promotions, just in case. You can easily register on the World of Hyatt website. Be sure to review the terms and conditions of the promotion if you plan to partake. Perhaps, you have a rather expensive Hyatt vacation planned before October 10 or are hosting a wedding or event. Now, if Hyatt would offer 25+ M life Rewards Tier Credits per dollar spent, that would be exciting.
