Southwest Vacations Sale to Vegas and Beyond

I just got an email from Southwest about really attractive Southwest Vacations Deals. Normally, I delete these (Southwest Vacations Sale) as soon as I get them, but the offers were so good that I decided to post about them for our hot deals this week. (Side note: Vacations Sale to Vegas)

I’ll start with the packages. A Southwest Vacations Sale Package will save you a few bucks and take the work out of it for you by combining a flight and a hotel, which should also get you a discount off the price if you had bought them individually. Most of the hotels throw in other extras, as well, ranging from room upgrades to F&B credits.

I decided to fly from LA to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving week. I booked a vacations sale to Vegas package for two, with a five-night stay at Aria. Here’s the price I got:

The vacations sale to Vegas price includes airline taxes, but it does not include the $45 per night resort fee at Aria. Note that that is the price for two people.

I then looked at booking the ticket and hotel separately. Here’s what I got:

$239.92 per person for the airfare
$708.63 for the hotel room, not including the resort fee.
Total: $1,188.47, for exactly the same package as above

Except wait, it’s not exactly the same package, since the Southwest Vacation also includes $40 in food and beverage credits each day (per room). So add on another $200 in value to the Southwest Vacations sale to Vegas package.

Sample Hawaii/International Package – Save $300+

Let’s go a different Southwest Vacations Sale direction, this time to the Riviera Maya via Cancun. We’re going to stay at the lovely Dreams Sands Cancun Resort & Spa in a Deluxe Partial Ocean View King.

Southwest has put together a package for $2,027 total. That includes your airfare, hotel and transfers, as well as $400 in resort coupons, the value of which I cannot ascertain.

The alternative?

$849.62 for the airline tickets
$1,396 for the hotel room
$91 for the transfer.

Even assuming that the resort coupons have no value, you’re still saving over $300 per couple. And you can put that money toward your next Southwest Vacations Deals!
