This Week In Travel
Two Steps Forwards…
Well, it was good while it lasted. Hope sprang in April as the vaccine rollout began. People began making their plans for summer vacation, booking trips to Europe, cruises and other locations, as if it were any other year. Over at LVA Travel, we saw demand for Las Vegas soar, with requests coming in on an hourly basis. By May, resorts were eliminating their promotions and raising prices, instead.
Sadly, we’ve reached the “one step back” portion of the cliche. As the percentage of the population that was vaccinated flattened and delta became the dominant variant, the pace of transmission re-accelerated and the term “breakthrough case” became yet another phrase in the COVID-19 lexicon.
So we’re going to head into another back-to-school period with COVID-19 hanging over our heads, but I’m hopeful. Vaccines are available for anyone who wants one and, hopefully, a round of boosters will slow the spread of breakthroughs.
In the meantime, here’s what we’re seeing out there in the world… and this week in travel
- Delta Airlines would rather that we stop using the variant name, well, you know…
- Not sure whether you can travel? You’re not alone.
- At least one hotel group is taking its cue from the airlines and charging per amenity.
- The Wynn Status match expires at the end of August, so make sure to take advantage of it!
- Hawaii is discouraging tourists from visiting the islands.
- Alaska, on the other hand, is seeing a boom in tourism.
