Okay, it’s more like “this month in travel,” but the days are all kind of blending together anyway. Imagine, an airline that eliminates award redeposit fees. In our last installment of TWIT, we discussed airline change fees.

Delta has eliminated a number of nuisance fees related to award travel, including those for redepositing miles and making last-minute changes. Hey, it’s a start.

Eliminates Nuisance Fees

Delta recently announced that it would be eliminating airline change fees for purchased tickets and now, it’s extending that policy to domestic award tickets.

Delta Eliminates Award Redeposit Fees

For domestic award tickets, Delta is eliminating both the $150 to cancel an award ticket and redeposit the miles, as well as the fees (award redeposit fees) to change a ticket. It’s also getting rid of the annoying restrictions on changing award tickets within 72 hours of the flight.

It’s not perfect. Basic economy fares will still be subject to the charges, as will international award tickets.

But the trend is definitely moving in the right direction. Over the past several months, airlines have been forced into more customer-friendly policies by the complete absence of those same customers.

The article gives additional updates on credit card and Sky Club benefits, but it’s fair to say that the award fee changes are the most important announcement in the news release.
