It’s time for another one of our delicious, yet low-calorie, TWIT notes. This week, we’ll look at the wrong way to spend twelve hours, some corporate marketing and a hike that I won’t be going on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Week In Travel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The One Thing to do With 12 Hours at the Airport<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Washington Post says that democracy dies in darkness, but dying with the lights off might be a better assignment than the one that they gave to Natalie Compton. Ms. Compton got to spend 12 hours at Baltimore’s airport (BWI)<\/a> and write an article about it. I want you all to promise me that you will never do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the understanding that Ms. Compton did this to satiate her inner Nellie Bly (or because she was told to) and not for entertainment, if you’re ever forced to spend twelve hours at an airport, there is only one thing that you should do: Find the nearest third-party lounge<\/a> and buy a day pass if you don’t have access through a credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve never had 12 hours at BWI but did once get stuck there for eight on a weather delay. My first, and only, stop was The Club<\/a>. It’s a small lounge, but it comes with comfortable seats, clean bathrooms, decent WiFi and plenty of food & drink (including alcohol).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Las Vegas Raiders, Sponsored by Allegiant Air<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Allegiant Air, an ultra-low cost carrier<\/a>, has a unique business model: It does package tours to leisure destinations from cities that have decent-sized populations but can’t support full service carriers. Think Bangor, ME or Minot, ND. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now, they’ve picked up a sponsorship<\/a>. The airline is based in Las Vegas and certainly considers Sin City its focus city, so it only makes sense to sponsor a stadium, right? Not so much. ULCCs make their money by keeping their costs extremely low, and I can’t imagine that this is a cheap sponsorship. I’m curious if the publicity will be worth the cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, maybe Allegiant is an appropriate sponsor for a football stadium. After all, both charge outrageous prices for seat assignments and beverages, and neither lets you carry a bag in for free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baby Heads Make The Coolest Tours…<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When you’re visiting Atlanta, there are a number of items that you need to check off your list. Tour the Coca-Cola museum. Maybe take in a Braves game. And, of course, hike the Doll’s Head Trail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trail is an outdoor art museum created by the trash that people have found along the way, including the aforementioned baby doll’s head. Nothing like taking recycling to a whole new level.<\/p>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
