Looking to celebrate the Chinese New Year? Here are some highlights of events and celebrations going on around town.
Festive Displays:
Aria
The main lobby of the Aria will be adorned with a 196-foot dragon which will hang from the lobby’s ceiling, weaving its way around a money tree made up of 88 gold coins symbolizing wealth and good fortune with pigs surrounding the base of the tree.
Bellagio
Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens will celebrate the Year of the Pig with a display through the end of March. Four golden pigs welcome guest entering the Conservatory through a pavilion made of jade stone, signifying wisdom, bravery, and honesty. There are five pendants which crown the top of the rotunda, each decorated with a gilded dragon.
Forum Shops – Caesars Palace
The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace welcomes a 22-foot long, 6-foot wide, and 12-foot high dragon which is a symbol of power, strength, and good luck. This massive steel-framed dragon is covered in 30,000 flickering red and amber lights.
The Venetian and Palazzo
The main feature at The Venetian and Palazzo is a golden pig sculpture. The display features a sculpture of a 3,000-pound golden pig that stands 16 feet tall and is surrounded by tangerine trees, chrysanthemums, orchids, succulents, and bromeliads. Nine smaller pigs will be placed throughout the waterfall atrium and resort lobbies.
Wynn and Encore
Wynn and Encore welcome guests with sculptures symbolizing the year of the Pig as you enter the property in the Wynn atrium and in front of the High Limits area at Encore.
Wynn’s atrium will feature Chinese-inspired sculpture displays, including 7000 begonias, mums, and calandiva flowers and throughout the resort.
Lion Dances, Parades, and Festivities:
Chinese New Year in the Desert/Las Vegas Spring Festival
The annual Chinese New Year in the Desert/Las Vegas Spring Festival will take place Feb 8 and 9, featuring multiple locations including Fashion Show Mall, Grand Canal Shoppes, and Container Park.
Caesars Entertainment
Caesars Entertainment resorts will host 13 lion dances designed to bring good luck throughout Las Vegas, including nightly performances at The LINQ Promenade from Feb 6-9. The lion dance performances at each of the nine resorts will start at the porte-cochere and make their way through the casino from Feb 8-13. Participating resorts include The Cromwell, Flamingo, Harrah’s, The LINQ, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Bally’s, Rio, and Caesars Palace.
The High Roller observation wheel lights will turn red and gold to mark the beginning of Chinese New Year on Feb 6.
MGM Grand, Bellagio, & Aria
Dragon and lion dance celebrations pay tribute to the Year of the Pig at the MGM Grand Feb 5 at 4 p.m., the Bellagio Feb 6 at 4 p.m., and Aria Feb 7 at 6:30 p.m., performed by Yau Kung Moon at all three resorts.
Traditional Fan Dance – Grand Canal Shoppes
The Traditional Fan Dance takes place on Feb 5 at 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. with dancers filling the Atrium above the waterfall and perform renditions of the famous dance. During the performance, more than 500 red envelopes will be passed out to guests filled with prizes from gift cards to chocolate gold coins.
Meadows School Chinese New Year Parade – Forum Shops
The Forum Shops welcome students from the Meadows School to perform a traditional dragon dance throughout the Forum Shops. The cast of singers and dancers include 120 students – 60 from kindergarten and 60 from the fifth grade. Feb 5 at 9 a.m.
The Cosmopolitan
In celebration of the Year of the Pig, The Cosmopolitan will feature a dragon and lion dance beginning at the Las Vegas Boulevard entrance on the first floor of the Boulevard Tower Feb 7 at 3 p.m.
Tropicana
The Tropicana begins the Year of the Pig with a special Chinese New Year celebration on Feb 8 at 8 p.m. A traditional lion dance will take place on the casino floor.
Las Vegas China Town Plaza
Celebrate the Year of the Pig at the China Town Plaza in Chinatown Las Vegas, Feb 17 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The New Year celebration will feature traditional foods, vendor exhibits, and entertainment. Entertainment includes a 150-foot long dragon parade, Chinese lion dance, Chinese kung-fu and martial art demonstrations, Chinese acrobats, Japanese taiko drummers, and Korean dance. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children 6-12.
Suncoast
The festivities at the Suncoast begin with a lion dance on Feb 15 at 3 p.m. The parade begins at the entrance of the new Asian restaurant, Peng Zu and throughout the casino floor.
Rampart Casino
Rampart Casino will celebrate Chinese New Year throughout the property with a decked out decor, multiple specials, casino promotions, and a lion dance throughout the casino floor. The lion dance takes place on Feb 9 at 9:30 p.m.
Downtown Summerlin
On Feb 6 at 6 p.m., Downtown Summerlin will host a dragon & lion dance percussion ensemble, traditional fan dancers, lucky red envelopes filled with chocolate gold coins, DTS and Macy’s gift cards, and Asian themed stilt walkers.
