Local Corner—Baguette Café
8359 W. Sunset Rd., 702-269-4781
The Baguette Café is a secluded little breakfast and lunch shop on the southwest side of town that ranks right up there with the city’s top restaurants in terms of critical acclaim. We first heard of it a few years ago when it made a national best-of list, and last year it was one of four Nevada restaurants on Yelp’s list of the “Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S.” (based on high rankings from users). The menu is posted on a chalkboard, so some selections (e.g., the day’s soups) change, but it’s mostly constant, with all menu items available throughout the day. Everything, including all the baked goods, is prepared on the premises and costs less than $10.
There are no standard eggs & bacon-type dishes, but two quiches daily, a big selection of salads, and about a dozen cold or grilled sandwiches (eggs, prosciutto, turkey, eggplant, Moroccan) served on baguettes or croissants. Fans of piled-high deli fare likely won’t go for these fancy and delicate sandwiches, but the tuna, served with hard-boiled egg, red onion, and olives, is pretty hardy. It’s very French, so there’s a major focus on coffees and teas, with many variations of each and served in those big soup-bowl cups when appropriate. There’s also a selection of fresh juices and smoothies. Eat inside or out on the patio.
While the location is a little challenging, it’s actually an easy drive from the Strip following I-215 West all the way up to Buffalo, turning right, then making the first left on Sunset. Hours are 7 am to 5 pm weekdays and 9 am to 3 pm on weekends. If you time it right, you can make a very cool lunch-and-free-play parlay that includes the No Regrets bar next door (see Gambling).

Never miss another post
We have enjoyed a lunch or brunch at Baguette Cafe on every trip since we first discovered it in April, 2016 and have never been disappointed. On our most recent visit in we each ordered the roasted vegetable quiche which bar none was the best ever. Their chicken curry sandwich, as well as the croissant and egg sandwich are outstanding. Prices are very reasonable and we find that Olivier and his mom are always helpful so do not hesitate to ask questions or request a recommendation.
