Local Corner – Gambler’s Café

January 1, 2016 1 Comment Written by Anthony Curtis

Gambler’s Café
800 S. Main Street, 702-432-4376

Sometimes the local corner attraction goes beyond just the food. The Gambler’s Café is a deli that serves heroes and other sandwiches, as well as breakfasts and bagel plates. The sandwiches are $7.99 and the heroes, all made with Boar’s Head meats, are $9.99-$12.99, depending on size and selection. These are huge sandwiches and one will easily feed two people. There’s a build-your-own-salad menu, along with New York specialties, like Wise chips and Dr. Brown’s sodas.

So it’s a good place for a sandwich, but that’s not the main reason we’re featuring it. The Gambler’s Café is located inside the Gambler’s General Store, which is Las Vegas’ premier store selling gambling books and memorabilia. We’ve written many times about the old Gambler’s Book Club, which was bought by gambler and gambling-book publisher Avery Cardoza, then merged with the Gamblers General Store last year. It carries all the latest gambling titles, as well as classics that are often sold used at big discounts. The store is a place that everyone who comes to Vegas should visit at some point. Avery is from Brooklyn and he opened the café to satisfy his own Brooklyn-deli cravings. He’s a cool dude who’s often at the store and will sign copies of the books he’s written, including his recent novel, Lost in Las Vegas.

Bottom line: The store and café make for a pretty sweet parlay if you’re looking for something different to do one afternoon for lunch. Café hours are 7 am-4 pm Mon.-Fri. and 8 am-2 pm on weekends.

As of this writing (2/20/17), a Groupon for the Gambler’s Cafe is available.

Vegas with an Edge is our catch-all blog on visiting and living in Las Vegas, in which you never know what will show up from day to day. Even we're bowled over from time to time by the posts that come from the keyboards of Jeffrey Compton (Living Local at Low Cost), Robin Camacho (Neighborhood Realty), Joe Pane (Knights on Ice), and special guests. We ourselves post under Vegas News and Updates, where we cover special events from March Madness to Mother's Day, Halloween to the Super Bowl. Check it out frequently and be surprised!
