Conrad’s Capers — Conrad Does Cabo Part 3

December 31, 2020 1 Comment Written by LVA Admin

In the previous post in this series, we mentioned the discount card called the Los Cabos Passport Card. Here, we go into the details.

The Passport Card comes out twice a year, on January 1 and July 1, and each is good for a year. It costs $80 and provides 2-for-1s or 50% off at upwards of 30 different Cabo-area restaurants. It’s valid for a party of up to six people. With a group, the card can pay for itself and then some with the first meal. Also, it’s good for multiple visits; if you like a particular restaurant, you can return as many times as you want and get the same discount.

The card also provides the 50% discount for select spa services and many Cabo activities and excursions: parasailing, swimming with dolphins, horseback riding, whale-watching excursions, booze and dinner cruises. Perhaps the biggest saving, other than restaurant meals, is for fishing charters. These can be hundreds of dollars per person. So the 50% discount can add up very fast.

On his trip at times, Conrad chose not to use the Passport card, going outside the program, for example, to enjoy some good street tacos. Taco Guss serves chicken, al pastor (marinated pork), steak, and sausage tacos for 25 pesos ($1.25 each). Fish tacos are a little more expensive. All come smothered in guacamole, with several different salsas and a huge platter of cucumber, carrots, cabbage, etc. At a sitting, Conrad downed four. Throw in a beer and for little more than $5, he was happy till dinner.

One night, at Invita Bistro Italian restaurant, he ordered the lasagna for 320 pesos, while his buddy had linguini with clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops for 360 pesos. So the lasagna was free and with bread and oil, two beers, and two shots of lemoncello for dessert, after the discount and with tip, the check for both big eaters was less than $20.

Another night at Jack’s Steakhouse at the marina, they each had a rib eye with baker and vegetables at 910 pesos. The bill came to $90, but the Passport discount chopped it to $45 at a classy waterfront steakhouse at the marina with live entertainment — an excellent deal for Cabo.
