Anyone familiar with The Moth will understand the Las Vegas Story Slam immediately. Story Slam is a monthly meeting of people from all walks of life. Some get up to tell a story. The rules are, the story must be true, it must have happened to the person telling it, there are no notes or scripts, and the time limit is 5 minutes. Each month there is a theme; for September 22nd the theme is “On the Other Hand”. As you can see the themes are broad enough that almost any story can be fit to it. The stories are often hilarious, sometimes tragic, occasionally bizarre, but I find them thoroughly compelling. The Story Slam is the fourth Friday of every month at 8pm, and it is held at the Center For Science and Wonder: 1651 E Sunset Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
Who knows, you might see someone on stage you recognize. The theme on this particular evening was, “Sometimes you are the windshield, and sometimes you’re the bug.”

And if you are interested in telling a story you can email [email protected] or fill out their Story Teller Interest Form.
The next slam is this coming Friday. Here’s hoping you have a story worthy week.
