Local Corner—The Bagel Café
301 N. Buffalo Dr., 702-255-3444
Last year we wrote about Weiss Deli and one of our favorite delis has always been Bagelmania, both on the east side. The Bagel Café is where the west-siders go for breakfast, bagels, smoked fish, and sandwiches, all served in big portions.
The breakfasts stand out here, with French toast, potato pancakes, eggs Benedict, about 20 different omelets, and eggs with every sort of meat imaginable, all priced around $12. They come with a choice of home fries, tomatoes, cottage cheese, or fruit, and of course a bagel. Or go with one of the smoked-fish platters for $16-$19. Oversized sandwiches with pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, turkey, ham, bologna, liverwurst, tongue, and more are $7-$14 for a half or $9-$18 for a whole (get the whole and share or finish later). Salads with chicken, egg, tuna, shrimp, and whitefish are $12.50 and under. We rate the matzo ball soup a little behind Weiss’, but it’s just as big and $1 less at $8.95. And a “dozen” bagels ($12) comes with 14.
The big dining room is busy in the mornings and there’s a counter if you’re in a hurry or dining solo. Check out the wall of photos at the front, which includes our Play to Win author Ken Einiger, among other (more prominent) entertainment personalities. Hours are 6:30 am-8 pm Tues.-Fri., 6:30-5 on Mondays, and 7-5 on weekends. Located just off US 95, it’s especially convenient from downtown.
