Last April, our scheduled Local Corner was Art of Flavors, a gelato/sorbetto shop on Las Vegas Boulevard that was getting raves. But when we did our last-second fact-checking, we discovered that the place had closed and we had to replace the review. A couple months later, Art of Flavors reopened, but it wasn’t the same. That’s because the maestro behind the shop’s success, Desyree Alberganti, had left to open a new shop called Gelatology. How’d it work out? If you put your faith in Yelp’s customer reviews, you won’t get a clearer signal than you do here—well over 100 reviews and almost all 5 stars. We’ve never seen that before, or anything even close. This lady is mighty good at what she does.
Every day there’s a different line-up of flavors, some of which sound downright scary—rosemary honey caramel, shiro miso & peanut brittle, pear and gorganzola, spicy honey jalapeño peanut, and apple-mustard cobbler, to name a few. She wouldn’t be putting them out there if they didn’t work, but how could you possibly commit to combos like that? By trying them first, of course. And try them you’re encouraged to do. We’ve never seen anyone turned down for a sample (or six). Don’t worry, traditional flavors are always in the mix. On a recent trip we picked up nutella, cookies & cream, and a terrific tart raspberry. Buy a carton or a cone. The smallest portion is 4 ounces for $4 and the deal gets better as you buy more, topping out at 16 ounces for $8.50. They also make their own sodas ($3.75) and other desserts like cookies and pastries, but everyone goes for the gelato and sorbetto.
Gelatology is a bit of a ways out on the west side, but easily found by going south on Rainbow, or exiting south from 215 West. Hours are 1-10 pm daily, and 11 am on Friday and Saturday.
