Local Corner – Weiss Deli

Weiss Deli
2744 N. Green Valley Pkwy., 702-454-0565

Many Las Vegans consider Weiss the best deli in Las Vegas. Think of what you’d expect to find in a Jewish deli and you’re a big favorite to find it here: sandwiches galore, including corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, turkey, brisket, salami, tongue, and tuna salad, plus clubs, melts, and burgers; breakfasts with eggs and bacon, ham, sausage, or hash, along with breakfast sandwiches and smoked fish platters; latkes and knishes; bagels by the bag; even egg creams and Dr. Brown’s soda. This isn’t a bargain place—breakfasts are $9, sandwiches are $10-$15, and smoked fish platters are $16-$19—but it’s all high quality and the portions are huge.

If you don’t eat in, use the side counter to order bagels, fish, pickles, green tomatoes, desserts, and salads, including tuna, egg, macaroni, chopped chicken liver, and whitefish to go. A baker’s-dozen bagels is $9.75, or you can get “second-day bagels” for $6.50. We rate Weiss’ bagels below our favorites at Bagelmania, but everything else is on par or better. Which leads to the primary reason for this recommendation: the matzoh ball soup. It’s spectacular here, with big matzoh balls added to a broth chock-full of chicken, vegetables, and noodles. Buy it by the bowl in-house or get a quart to go that will easily feed two or three for $9.95. This is our favorite matzoh soup going away.

Weiss is located in Henderson, somewhat in the Green Valley Ranch area. Hours are 8 am-7:30 pm daily (6:30 pm on Sundays). It can get busy, especially on weekends, so be ready for a little wait or hit the take-out counter.

Vegas with an Edge is our catch-all blog on visiting and living in Las Vegas, in which you never know what will show up from day to day. Even we're bowled over from time to time by the posts that come from the keyboards of Jeffrey Compton (Living Local at Low Cost), Robin Camacho (Neighborhood Realty), Joe Pane (Knights on Ice), and special guests. We ourselves post under Vegas News and Updates, where we cover special events from March Madness to Mother's Day, Halloween to the Super Bowl. Check it out frequently and be surprised!
