Heading to Vegas soon and concerned that not everything you want to do will be open? Or are you trying to minimize your time indoors and looking for other outdoor activities now that pool season is winding down?
Try a scavenger hunt!
A scavenger hunt is a fun way to explore the city, see new things, and test your knowledge of all things Vegas. The one I did is called Stray Boots (Strayboots.com or download their app). Games can be done solo, as a team, or as multiple teams competing against one another, so it’s a good idea for a group of friends, a single traveler, or as a corporate team-building activity.
Stray Boots has several different games to choose from on the Strip and downtown, so one is sure to be convenient to wherever you’re staying. Prices vary, in the neighborhood of $15 per person.
The way it works is the app gives you a clue to find a certain landmark at a certain hotel (it may be in a prominent location in the hotel you’ve walked by a thousand times and never noticed, or it may require you to venture deep into the resort). It gives you a fun fact or two, then asks you a question that you should be able to answer if you’re standing in the right location. Once you’ve proven that you’ve found the right spot, the game directs you to the next location. You can play for fun by yourself or as a team, or you can race against other teams. The whole thing takes an hour or two. I won’t post any pictures, so as not to give away any of the locations.
Another more elaborate option is called Las Vegas The Game (lasvegasthegame.com). This one is more involved and expensive. It sounds like a combination between the 1997 thriller The Game (with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn) and the New York City street-theater experience, “Accomplice.”
This is more of a “prank-your-friend” type of experience, so it’s probably better suited for a bachelor/bachelorette party or birthday celebration, where everyone except the guest of honor is in on the gag. Various scenarios involve taking you out for a night on the town — with actors planted along the way to ensure that things “go wrong” in just the right way. If you and your gang have ever wanted to experience the movie The Hangover without the danger of actually getting in trouble, then this is probably the game for you. I’ve researched this one, but never actually done it, so if anyone out there has (or does), let me know how you liked it!

Las Vegas The Game sounds like the premise for the movie Vegas Bachelor Party with Kal Penn and Donald Faison. A group of friends go to Vegas and have a grand adventure, which in the end was actually all staged, and set up by the groom’s brother, through a company that provided the adventure without the groom and his buddies knowing it wasn’t real. The scavenger hunt sounds like a great idea. Thanks for posting this.
