Caesars Entertainment has announced that it will follow the lead of MGM Resorts International and begin charging for parking in its garages and valets. Similar to MRI, locals and higher-tier club members will be exempt. All properties except the Rio will be included, with The LINQ and Harrah's starting in about a month and others following on an undisclosed schedule.
Tao Asian Bistro at the Venetian is the top-grossing independent restaurant in the U.S. with almost $48 million in sales last year according to Restaurant Business Magazine. Interestingly, Tao's top position is attributable to the cost of its product, not the number of customers, as every other restaurant in the top 100 had a higher number of customers served. Las Vegas had 15 restaurants on the list, second only to New York City with 30.
R.C. Farms in North Las Vegas has been sold. The pig farm is known for using casino leftovers as feed, but the significance of the sale is that it will end a decades-long spat between the owner and nearby homeowners who had to live with the stench from the pigs. The new owners plan to build housing tracts and a retail center on the land.

A new restaurant called Hawthorn Grill is set to open in December at the Rampart. It will replace the Carmel Room and Ceres, which have been sharing a space, and feature the former chef at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris.

The strip club Pussycat's has closed. It was one of Las Vegas' lower-end clubs, but it had one interesting distinction: It's sign was prominently displayed in the opening scene of the movie The Hangover.
It's been a fast-changing landscape on the strip club scene, a part of which is discussed in today's "Question of the Day," with Arnold Snyder from ToplessVegasOnline.com explaining that the former OG (and Olympic Gardens) has not only moved, but has taken the name of the previous club at its new location, Sophia's.
The first outdoor ice skating rink of the holiday season has opened at the Toshiba Plaza in front of the T-Mobile Arena. The fee to skate is $15 for two hours and there's a 20% discount for locals. The rink on the pool deck of the Cosmopolitan opens this Friday, with a $15 fee ($10 for locals) for all-day skating.
Despite the hush hush stance, the Lucky Dragon drew a good crowd for last night's opening. The baccarat tables were busy and there were long lines at the players club. The best video poker we saw was 8/5 Bonus Poker, which is available everywhere, including the big center bar. Several restaurants were open. The only obvious glitch was the TVs over the bar weren't working. So with no sports book, the Lucky Dragon wasn't the place to be if you were trying to follow the college football games.

Donnie and Marie Osmond will preside over the lighting of a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree tonight at the LINQ Promenade. Donnie and Marie will perform a few holiday classics prior to the lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. On Nov. 25, Winter PARQ debuts in the Promenade, featuring nightly live entertainment beginning at 6 p.m. and an artificial snowfall on the half hour from 5 p.m. to midnight.

The nation's fourth "Taco Bell Cantina" has opened on the Strip at Harmon, across from CityCenter. The two-story venue is open 24/7 and serves alcohol. It's the 7,000th domestic Taco Bell, with the Cantina restaurants also located in Chicago, San Francisco, and Austin.
The Stage Door on E. Flamingo just off the Strip is Las Vegas' best dive bar according to voting in the latest LVA poll. The Stage door took 20% of the vote, followed by Frankie's Tiki Room with 12% and the Double Down Saloon with 10%. The complete results are posted here.

The resort at Sahara and the Strip held a "friends and family" opening last night and will have its up-to-now super-secret soft opening to the public on Saturday at 4 p.m. The grand opening remains scheduled for Dec. 3.
Stan Lee, creator of several Marvel Comics superheros (Spiderman, Captain America, and X-Men among them) will be at Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. at Treasure Island today in conjunction with the release of a special pin intended to promote racial unity. The Hard Rock Cafe on Paradise, next door to the Hard Rock casino, will close on Dec. 31. The company says it's a "strategic decision" that will allow them to focus efforts on the Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip. The Paradise Hard Rock opened in 1990.

For the second year in a row, the team of Anthony Curtis and Frank Betti have made it to the final eight of the Golden Nugget's "Friday Football Showdown" handicapping contest. The tournament will now be decided by head-to-head matches, with Anthony and Frank playing their first round on Dec. 9. They finished second overall last year, losing the final match on a tiebreaker.
The newly renovated Palm Restaurant in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is running a one-day only flash sale tomorrow. All day Thursday (opens at 11:30 a.m.), get a big 4-pound whole lobster dinner for $69. The normal price is $85, so this is a good saving on a lobster gorge.

Both Uber and Lyft have introduced their car-pooling services in Las Vegas. Customers use the companies' apps to participate in UberPOOL or Lyft Line, both of which function similar to car pools by allowing multiple riders on a trip to split fares. The downside is you have to be willing to ride with others and it will take longer to reach your destination.
John Katsilometes reports in today's LV Review Journal that 53X is closing at Paris. The show ran for eight months, which is actually longer than many recent new shows that have been opening and closing, sometimes within weeks.

Dressed in an Elvis Presley-style jumpsuit for the entire race, Michael Wardian won the Las Vegas marathon on Sunday. He also accomplished his primary goal, which was to set a Guinness World Record for running the fastest marathon while dressed like Elvis. Wardian said, "... the suit was pretty awesome. You get this sucker wet, it just stays cool." Also, more than 100 couples either got married or renewed wedding vows during the race.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas' ice rink that overlooks the Strip is returning for its fifth year. The rink with real ice will run from Nov. 25 to Jan. 2. Passes for all-day skating will be $15 and $10 for Nevada residents, Monday-Friday.
Four experimental street lights that draw energy from people walking on sensors implanted in the ground have been installed in the Arts District. They work on solar and kinetic energy, the latter of which is generated by foot traffic in the area. The lights also power environmental monitors, support video surveillance, have USB ports, and are Wi-Fi hot spots.

As expected, the Palms name will remain intact. In an interview with John Katsilometes in the LV Review-Journal, the Palms' new general manager confirmed that the name will remain "simply the Palms" (no Palms Station for now), though many other areas of the resort are being evaluated.
The Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll Marathon will cause road closures all over the city today, beginning as early as 9 a.m. The greatest impact will be felt from 2:30 p.m. on, when the entire Strip and several access ramps to I-15 will be closed for most of the remainder of the day. An estimated 45,000 people will participate in several races, with more than 5,000 running the marathon.

The website LegalSportsReport.com reports that the SEC has launched an investigation into Nevada's entity betting operations, requesting information about "their advertising and marketing practices, the identity of their investors, and their correspondences with business partners, regulators, and other officials." The entities are attempting to operate with a financial-style model, which may have drawn the SEC's scrutiny, or it's possible that the involvement of CG Technologies (formerly Cantor Gaming), which has been the target of recent government disciplinary action, prompted the inquiry. The death of a chimpanzee who worked as a croupier in a Russian casino is being blamed on hard-living and bad habits picked up on his job. A new survey conducted by Farleigh Dickinson University indicates that 48% of Americans support legalizing sports betting, while 39% are opposed. That leaves 13% undecided, suggesting that potentially more then 50% of the population would support legalization. Power has been restored at Paris Las Vegas after an outage early yesterday caused a full evacuation of the property, hotel and casino. The outage was caused by a main power line being cut during on-site construction. All areas of the resort are running as normal.

It's another setback for Phil Ivey, as the poker star's appeal over the non-payment of a $9.6 baccarat win in London has been rejected. The judge ruled that by exploiting defects in the cards being used, Ivey had "achieved his winnings through manipulating the odds." Ivey can now seek to appeal to England's Supreme Court. Qui Nguyen, a 39-year-old professional player from Las Vegas, is poker's new world champion after winning the World Series of Poker's Main Event last night and the $8,005,310 first prize. Nguyen outlasted Gordon Vayo in a 9-hour+ heads-up battle that was the longest in WSOP Main Event history. On the final hand, Nguyen had K-10 suited to Vayo's J-T suited. A king flopped and Nguyen's pair held up for the win. Vayo got $4.6 million for second and pre-final favorite Cliff Josephy was third, taking down $3.5 million. In beating the 27-year-old Vayo, Nguyen snapped a run of eight straight champions in their 20s. He also becomes the second winner named Nguyen, joining Scotty Nguyen, who won it in 1998.
The Cleveland Indians are -155 favorites over the Chicago Cubs in Game 6 of the baseball World Series. The total is 7.5. Despite having a 3-2 lead in the series, it's the first game in which the Indians have been favored. MGM Resorts International says it would spend up to $10 billion to develop an integrated resort that combines a casino with a hotel, shopping, and conference space. Gambling is currently illegal in Japan, but it's believed that the law will be changed, possibly in the near future. MRI isn't alone in wanting to set up shop in Japan; the usual suspects -- Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts -- have also thrown their hats into the ring.
