At 5:25, Cartwright is correct that 13 v AA is a hit. Dealer AA is a strong hand, and is not to be treated as equivalent to a 2 up. The rule-of-thumb to add the upcard to the hole card and treat that as equivalent to an upcard matching that sum (e.g., 4 up + 3 in the hole = 7 up + unknown in hole) applies only to hard totals, not soft hands where one of the dealer’s cards is an Ace.
Interesting to look at these old podcasts as time capsules, to hear what was the breaking news back then, and what predictions were being made. After an announcement by Steve Wynn that he planned to install 2x odds on craps, instead of 345x odds, Bob Dancer speculated that 2x odds would spread like wildfire (like 6:5 blackjack), while Richard Munchkin and guest Cartwright thought 345x would continue.
