The Airport Has a Terminal 1 and Terminal 3; What Happened to Terminal 2?

Updated July 31, 2023

Reid's Terminal 2, the former charter and international terminal before the $2.4 billion Terminal 3 opened on June 27, 2012, debuted in 1991 on the site where two separate terminals, for American Airlines and PSA Airlines, had been located in the 1970s and '80s.

It was a two-story building with eight gates, but the original construction job must have been particularly shoddy; barely 20 years later, it was definitely past its expiration date, held together with "baling wire and bubble gum," according to a county aviation official, and no longer a functional terminal.

Las Vegas being Las Vegas, the idea was floated to invite Hollywood to film an implosion for an upcoming movie, but nothing ever happened there. In fact, the building stood empty and forlorn for nearly four years, till it was demolished in March 2016.
