MLB SDQL Query of the Day (active)

MLB SDQL Query of the Day (active) These queries, which can be performed using the SDQL text box (a link to which is provided on the lvasports.com home page) are active in a game on the day they are posted. These are not "plays," they are information that the reader may (or may not) use as part of his decision-making process. For 8/23 we have: The Giants are 8-0 since June 09, 2009 after being shutout and it is the first game of a series. The SDQL Text is: team=Giants and p:runs=0 and SG=1 and date>=20090609 By actually performing the query yourself, you can see the complete game listing for the trend and find out how many games are from this season, the Giants' average line, average margin of victory, number of quality starts by their and their opponent's starters, et cetera. Prof Meyer
Yeah, in this case, I'd pass at best on the Giants. Still consider them a fade for at least another week. This normally has been a good trend because the Giants hadn't scored a lot until July. But methinks they're shaking their heads on the plane right now. I'm stealing this from local talk radio (always a bad sign to do this), but they were playing like they were behind in the wild card race vs Philly. Well, now they are behind. Maybe because of this trend you pass on the Giants today instead of betting against them, but I just can't back them right now.
I agree... Excellent observations. I hope you don't mind if I expand on them. The profit produced when betting on baseball is as much a function of the number of potentially losing (or marginal) plays you avoid as it is the winning plays that you make. It's all about gathering ALL the relevant information and then making an informed decision. If a bettor is aware of this trend and chooses to play against the Giants anyway, I have absolutely no problem with that. They may be right. What I'm trying to avoid is the situation in which someone makes a play without this information. Prof M.
Active SDQL Query of the Day (8/24) The Yankees are a perfect 9-0 this season on the road when seeking immediate revenge for a loss in which they held the lead -- with four of the nine wins coming as an underdog. SDQL text is: team=Yankees and 20100 and p:L and SG>1 After running this from the link provided on the lvasports.com home page, click on the link that appears on the right of the records to view the complete listing of the nine games. Active SDQL Query of the Day (8/25) The Rangers are 16-0 with C. J. Wilson when he did not allow a home run in his last start. The SDQL text is: starter= C.J. Wilson and s:SHRA=0 and date>=20100422 The SHRA stands for "Starters Home Runs Allowed" and the s: prefix points it back to the starter's last start. To see a listing of all of Wilson's starts in this situation, click on the SDQL text that appears to the right of the records summary after running the query. Running the query reveals that the Rangers have won by an average of 3.5 runs per game in this spot. Prof Meyer
Active SDQL Query of the Day (8/26) The Phillies are 10-0 since September 2007 with Kyle Kendrick when they lost as a home favorite in his last start. The SDQL text is: starter=Kyle Kendrick and s:LHF and date>=20070901 Run this query yourself at the MLB database at lvasports.com. To start, click on the "MLB Database" button in the Sports Data Query Language Box on the upper right of the lvasports.com home page. Then paste the SDQL text above into the text box and click on "query." You should see the 10-0 record in a few seconds. Then, click on the SDQL text to the right to view the complete game listing. Check out his three starts in the situation from this season. Wow. Prof Meyer
Active SDQL Query of the Day (8/27) Here is a team trend that we found in the winter of 2008. It was 0-10 at the time. It went 0-10 in 2009 to get to 0-20. So far this season, it is 0-7 producing an 0-27 trend. We probably released a play on fewer than half of the 17 winners that it produced since we found the trend. Here it is: The Diamondbacks are 0-10 since September 14th, 2007 as a dog during the regular season when they are off a win in which they never trailed and their starter lasted more than six innings and did not allow a home run. The SDQL text is: team=Diamondbacks and D and po:BL=0 and p:SIP>6 and p:SHRA=0 and playoffs=0 and date>=20070914 Run it yourself by going to the MLB Database from the link on the lvasports.com home page. Paste in the SDQL text above and then click on the query button. Once the records appear, you can view the entire game 27-game listing by clicking on the link to the right of the records section. Does this trend mean that playing against the Diamondbacks tonight has a positive expectation value? I'm open to arguments either way. Prof Meyer
The Diamondbacks haven't been very good, so going 0-27 is easier for them than, say, the Yankees. In general, I would use this data to keep from betting them, but I would not use this as the main reason to bet against them. Because I've been fading the Giants this month (and not with the success I thought I would be having, mind you), your stat is making me skip this game, and I thank you for that! Typical summer weather tonight, BTW: 58 and windy.
8.28.10 Active SDQL Query of the Day (8/28) The Braves are 0-8 with Tim Hudson when facing a team that has won at least their last two games. The SDQL text is: starter = Tim Hudson and 220070901 As can be seen by running the query, Hudson has not pitched that poorly in the eight losses and four of the eight came in extra innings. Prof M.
Does anyone have a record on how these "queries of the day" have done since PM started posting them? Not his plays. but the Q of the day. Thanks for any help.
