Oakland +170 over TEXAS – Cahill shut down the Rangers’ offense yesterday and the Athletics capitalized on his pitching performance with a 4-1 win -- out-hitting the Rangers 9-4. Texas has trouble recovering in this spot. They are 0-13 when they are off a loss in which they had fewer than six hits and drew fewer than four walks – including 0-8 THIS season. See for yourself with this SDQL:
team=Rangers and p:L and p:hits=20090712
Note the fact that the Rangers lost 12 of the 13 by multiple runs and that they were monster favorites in each of their last three.
The Athletics have been very profitable in this spot. Oakland knows how to close out a series, as they are 10-0 in the last game of the series when they are off a win – with five of the ten wins as a dog and all ten are from this season.
Of course, C. J. Wilson has great numbers recently. However, this information can give you no line value because everyone know this. This is why the Rangers are 200 favorite.
Mazzaro, however, has had SIX straight quality starts for the A’s and Oakland’s staff is currently on a run of five straight quality starts. We give the A’s close to a 50% chance of winning here and that makes them a good investment at this price.
