Rickjs handicapping picks wk of 06/21 Sunday another 1-1 day for +.20 units. At least Washington had the lead for awhile but lost 5-3. Seattle hung on to win 1-0 after a scary 7th inning threat. Today only 1 home dog and its nowhere close to being a pick. So we get a rest today after a busy weekend. Ive been getting some emails regarding the comment I posted the other day by a poker player noting some of the regular poker players have severe psychological disorders. My blog is here to give people that are interested a realistic view of the poker world. There are good points of course and bad. As in anything. As everyone knows that have been reading this blog for any length of time that I feel the toughest part of playing poker is dealing with the various personality types that cohabit the poker rooms. You get every extreme. And sooner or later exposure to it takes its toll on everyone. Ideally if your a regular player whose goal is to make money playing its logical to assume you would want to make the playing environment as comfortable as possible for the tourists that frequent the game and also the locals that are casual players. This should be the goal of all people intent on making money at the tables because it means people will come back for a longer period of time when they are losing players. But if you combine the losing with rudeness and beratement and ridicule you will lose the players you want in the game much sooner then should be expected. I only bring this up because much of the email I have been getting agrees with the observations of the post I just put up a few days ago. Boston had the bases loaded twice that I saw. Then in the ninth the shortstop has to make diving/rolling play on a sharply hit ball and then skips it to first for the final out up one with a runner on. Good Call Thanks Rick

Wedn We won our lean with Colorado on Tues. We survived two bases loaded innings and a 9th inning threat to win 2-1. Today 7 home dogs but nothing clear cut this morning. There are 2 games that could swing our way but really are not very close right now. One goes around 1:30 pst and the other 4:00 pst. I will update if anything develops. Friday We had an easy time of it with our play on Toronto on Thurs winning 5-0. Today only 2 home dogs and 1 that could possibly turn into a pick. The dodger game starts at 7 pst and as of right now its quite a bit away from being a pick. But I will watch the numbers and if it turns into anything I will follow up with a post. Poker Comments: I have struggled over the years trying to win money playing online poker. I only play limit and low stakes since I really don't trust the environment. When the world series is in town here in Vegas there is an opportunity to talk with a variety of good players and almost without exception most have given up trying to win online. Now there are exceptions to that and you read about the players that play 20 tables at a time making huge amounts of money. But as to the good limit players I know that are winning players in live cash games in the casino almost every player has given up online play or has at least commented on having difficulty winning. It's a different game online. I would not play cash games higher than 3-6 limit or 1-2 NL. It's boring. Tournaments with low buy-ins and gimmicks (like steps or double or nothing) are ripe for the picking still. That's where the bad players go now. Why buy a scratcher at the liquor store for $1 when you can play poker online in a $1 tournament, play for two hours and maybe get lucky? Cash games will get better when it's "legal" again. In the meantime, stick with tournaments online. And because those online players that stopped playing cash games are playing in casinos again, the games are as soft as ever, based on my experience. Anyone with any self-control at all should be able to make a living with a $10,000 bankroll playing 1-2 NL at any strip casino. Your work hours? 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, 8 p.m.-4 a.m. Sunday/Wednesday/Thursday nights. It ain't glamorous, but it's lucrative. When I had a job that let me take 10-day trips to LV, I would do this and sleep all day. I can imagine it burning you out, though.

Add me to that list. The games look good, if not great, but I can't win over the long haul. I don't understand it but something's wrong. I've also talked to many players I know to be winning live players and they echo the same theme. I've even talked to a friend who has a fairly high position at one of the big sites and he agrees. I've given it up except for an occasional tournament. I think it may be legalized in some form before too long. My suspicion is that the rake will be so high that it will be unplayable.
