12:35am EST @ Pittsburgh Pirates
We are getting this one out early due to time constraints as this one starts at 12:35 EST and we want to capitalize on what we believe to be a fair line at -135 for an under-achieving team with anticipation of the line heading north come Monday morning.
Both of the teams are winners of only three of their last ten. But we have been riding with Carlos Silva (7-0, 9-1 team record, 3.12 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, .245 BAA) who has been nothing short of stellar. He has had eight quality starts of his ten and the two others were above average starts where he won both. On the other side we see Dana Eveland making his debut for the Pirates after a recent trade from the Blue Jays. Talk about lousy campaigns, it doesn’t get worse than 3-4, 6.45 ERA, 1.88 WHIP, and .313 BAA while playing with a hot Blue Jays lineup behind him. His last three starts (16.39 ERA) with the Blue Jays, especially the last one, were downright embarrassing. We really cannot see that having changed in the last two weeks haven thrown just two innings in a brief minor league stint. Note that the Pirates bullpen was extended more than the Cubs this weekend as they had to go to Dotel and Meek in all three games against the Giants while the Cubs did not go to Marmol or anyone reliable on Sunday.
The Cubs hit southpaws and visit Pittsburgh in this makeup game before heading to Milwaukee. The Pirates head to Washington to face Stephen Strasburg Tuesday in his first career start in a much hyped game. The Pirates will probably rest a few starters but who knows? Nonetheless, we know they will have that game on their minds. Sunday the Cubs rested Soriano and Theriot so we can assume their lineup will be mostly intact. This is a good “spot” for the Cubs and they have the pitching greatly in their favor. Also, consider the Cubs in a 5 inning wager.
