Rudy NYC Sports Play of the Day -6/2/2010 (64-38 +54.99 units) 1-0 +3.00 (winner Monday on Marlins - Tuesday dark) 64-38 +54.99 units (2010 MLB Season) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday Night Play: 917 Wednesday, 6/2/2010 Baltimore Orioles/New York Yankees Over 9.5 3 units 7:05pm EST @ New York Yankees The short of it, these two pitchers are a combined 11-4 OVER this year and 5-1 OVER last 3. Bergesen is having a horrific season and Hughes started the campaign much better than his recent form. We have a neutral ump and it is one of those picture perfect nights in the Apple where the balls fly in the new Stadium. Let’s not forget the Yankees pigpen! GL RUDY
i'll take it, as always thanks
Thanks Rudy.
Thanks, Cool and MW....this one should have been OVER earlier as Orioles were playing bad (stupid) baseball all night and should have at least a couple more runs. But, you know what? My book pays if you win by a half or ten and a half runs! As for today, Thursday, I will not be posting a play but I will be on: Nationals (I will personally play it for 5 innings) Marlins RL (I will also play -1 for 5 innings) Orioles/Yankees UNDER 9 (Thought about posting this but too humid here and balls may fly. Also, I expect some regulars on both sides to be rested so anything could happen; I'l wait for lineups before putting some on the UNDER) GL today, back ay 'ya tomorrow, RUDY

I thought the top of the 8th was gonna kill us. Tejada thrown out at the plate trying to score from first on a double with no outs. It was justice they bagged one in the bottom.
Rudy My gratitude, also, for your GREAT picks
Doesn't humidity inhibit the flight of the ball (increased water vapor provides more resistance on ball in flight)? This is a subtle point, and it would be nice to know for sure. Speaking of which, it will be unusually humid this week in the Bay Area. Consider this when handicapping the Oakland games. (SF just finished a homestand last night.)

WTF do I know anyway?...lol GL today, RUDY
I am not positive about how the humidity of the air affects the flight of the ball but I do know the higher humidity of the ball itself helps impede its flight. In Colorado the combination of the big ball park (Coors Field), the small percent gain from the higher altitude and the low humidity was Hell on pitchers. They could not convince any top pitchers to play in Denver because they knew their Era’s would skyrocket. Colorado has a very dry climate. After doing some research they discovered their game balls actually weighed up to an ounce less than the recommended 5 to 5.25 ounces. In addition the balls were slicker and NOBODY wants small slick balls …..(sorry I had to get one balls joke in). To counteract some of that effect, in 2002 the Colorado Rockies installed a humidor to store game balls to bring them up to the required playing weight and now Coors field plays more like standard ball parks.
Jones just homered for the O's. Michael Kaye's, Yank's broadcaster, response was "the balls are jumping out today". After 2 1/2 innings I am further convinced that humidity makes the balls fly further. RUDY (Turkey - thanks, that was an interesting read on ball played in Colorado but we have to remember that Mork was from Colorado)
