Today we find a classic situation where a team, Dodgers, is in look ahead mode. The Mannys start a weekend series at Fenway tomorrow night and if you do not think that affects the entire team, you have never been in a clubhouse. As for the matchup, we also have the Reds looking to fend off a series sweep. They probably have their best pitcher to get that done in Bronson Arroyo. The veteran Arroyo will give the Reds needed innings. Yes, we are aware that Bronson has not fared well against the Dodgers in the past but we have Manny slated to sit and would not be surprised if Torre gives others the day off. Starting for the Dodgers we have John Ely who has tailed off in his last two starts. This might be a classic case of a rookie haven thrown too many innings. Nonetheless, we see the Reds more motivated in this situation as they are Jonesing for a win as the Dodgers look ahead.

Talk about look ahead situations. After today’s series finale in Detroit, the Nats return home tomorrow for another Stephen Strasburg event. We suppose the Nats will be somewhat unfocused. Luis Atilano is a decent starter and can give the Nats innings setting up a very good relief staff. Jeremy Bonderman has given the Tigers eight above average to quality starts of his last ten. Austin Jackson is slated to miss another game and we suspect other veteran position players to get rest on this get away day. The Tigers are 4-1 to the UNDER in day games and the Nats 1-1. Finally, we have a major UNDER umpire, Bill Miller, behind the dish. This looks like a low scoring, two hour event and we believe the total is set a bit on the high side.
