RudyNYCSports MLB Play of the Day - 3/31/11 Tigers/Yanks OVER 7.5 -120 (Bookmaker) 1.5 units (okay to play @ OVER 8)* Let’s not talk stats on this one as we know we have two premier starters going and two potent lineups. Let’s talk situation. The rain has cleared up as we await this evening’s storm with showers forecasted for this afternoon. It is windy and is forecasted to persists as the Nor’easter approaches. Any way you slice it, it is roar outside. As David Letterman said last night: “at least you know the beer will be cold today at the Stadium”. Both these teams had good springs, especially in the hitting department. Tiger’s starter Verlander was unhittable in the Grapefruit League and Yank starter Carsten Charles (CC) Sabathia’s spring was a walk in the park. However, typically both starters have been slow starters in the regular season. Here is where I see the problem: neither pitcher will be asked to go too far today as at sometime there will be a prolonged inning making it difficult for one or the other to stay loose in this weather. Both relief staffs are decent but it only takes one cold relief pitcher to set the table for several runs crossing the plate. With these two heavy hitting lineups there is no room for error. This one goes OVER in the mid to late innings. GL Rudy * I will grade this @ OVER 8 +105 (5dimes)
Nice start to the season. Just a few points on the later game, SF @ LAD. This not a play, just want to mention a few things. But I do like the Giants to prevail. The line, practically a Pick, is based on a few negative Giants factors: 1) The loss of Wilson – in my opinion, the Giants have enough relief to compensate, if necessary. 2) The loss of Ross – plenty of talent around to compensate. 3) Most important, Timmy’s perceived lousy spring – boy did he look sharp early, maybe he coasted in??? 4) The perception that Kershaw is the “next Koufax” – yup, he had a very good spring but he is simply the Dodger’s best pitcher. Why I like the Giants, other than the fact that I always do: 1) Expect Timmy to make a “statement” and treat this as a “big game” as he is a big game pitcher. 2) Compare the Dodgers lineup to the Dodgers. Player for player the Giants have the edge in most positions. 3) Oh, Timmy is 5-1 against the Dodgers and the Giants are 8-1 when Tim starts against the Dodgers. GL Rudy
Ross was picked up off the wire last season, remember. He is overrated because of his heroics. How often are you going to get Lincecum at the price he is at today?

Nice call on the Yanks, Rudy. I was big on the Brewers today because Volquez was awful during spring training and I have no idea why Dusty started him on Opening Day. That didn't work out, but I was on the right side. I've said that a lot over the last few months. I like the under in the SF game.
Mac, Brew hurt big time, even more so after watching the highlights.

My other play today was Milw/Cinn over...sorry I did not post...classic case of Dusty being Dusty in starting Volquez. Guess he knew better in the end. If he expects to win that way everyday he will face a rude awakening. Rudy
