Tuesday, April 20 Play of the Day 2-0 +4.0 (yesterday) 39-18 +46.34 (2010 MLB season to date) --------------------------------------------- 958 Tuesday, 4/20/2010 New York Mets (+102.0) 2 units 7:10pm EST @ New York Mets Firstly, just because I am from New York it does mean I am a Mets fan, in fact, having grown up less than five miles from the old Shea, I have never been a Mets fan. Just felt the need to get that out there! As for the game, okay, we recently said we were not Pelfrey believers. Well, things have changed after his two starts where he has mastered a 2-0 record, a 1.38 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP (and a save, too). On the other hand, Zambrano is in one of his funks - we know he is good for a few during the course of any season. As for the teams, the Mets are like the dog everyone likes to kick. But they are not playing that poorly. They have been a victim of situations, scheduling, and injury. We think they will start to roll on this home stand. Now, what is so special about the year-in and year-out under-achieving Cubs? Lou has yet to get this team inspired and they have a 2-5 road record. Here's the clincher: the Cubs bullpen has a 6.00 ERA where the Mets have a bullpen ERA of 2.19!!! GL, RUDY
Agree with the pick, but may I recommend looking at WHIP vs. ERA? It is generally a more-accurate determination of a staff's worth.
Agree with the pick, but may I recommend looking at WHIP vs. ERA? As for relievers, it is my opinion that both ERA and WHIP are equally as important as you need an indication, such as ERA, for the runs allowed. Nonetheless, the Cubs relievers' WHIP of 1.41 is only slightly higher than the Mets' 1.30. We are probably looking at this the same way but I cannot discount a relief staff having a 6.00 ERA!
