RUDY's MLB 4/5 - 4/11

RUDY's MLB 4/5 - 4/11 10:05 PM EDT 925 Seattle Mariners – F Hernandez -121 926 Oakland A’s – B Sheets The play: Seattle Mariners -121 (3 units) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (NOTE: we played this early at -121; it is now -145 to 150) Where do we start on this one? OK, the A’s cut Jack Cust. Not a household name you say, only the A’s home run leader the last three years. The effect of this cut is a young team with limited talent starting the season with low morale. Today they face Felix Hernandez, last year’s Cy Young runner-up. Felix is coming off a sharp spring and seems ready to continue where he left off last year. The A’s throw Ben Sheets, another thrower coming off surgery. Big Ben got shelled most of the spring but showed improvement in his last two outs. It will not be enough against Felix. As for the lineups, the A’s have one of the weakest power lineups in the majors. Don’t get me wrong, the Mariners have only a decent lineup at best, but they look like an All-Star team against the A’s. If this were not Opening Day, this would have been a 5unit play. Play this one for 5 innings and full game, too. GL, RUDY
7:05 PM EDT 915 SF Giants – T Lincecum -124 916 Houston Astros – R Oswalt The play: SF Giants -124 (2 units) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Played early @ -124; current line -135 to -145) Let’s get this out there early. The SF Giants are a lot better and will go much further than the press recognizes. We are not saying they will capture the NL pennant or even win their division but this team has very few weaknesses. They have perhaps the best starting rotation headed by today’s starter, Tim Lincecum. The Giants have a tremendous amount of momentum coming out of a magnificent preseason which will carry through to the early season. Today’s matchup, with Cy Young Award winner, Lincecum, vs. a suspect Roy Oswalt, at this price is a steal. Jump on this one early as the price should rise into the minus 130’s. GL, RUDY
MLB Tuesday 4/6 - 2 plays 2-0 +5.0 units yesterday 2-0 +5.0 units MLB season -------------------------- 8:05 PM EDT 951 SF Giants – B Zito +117 952 Houston Astros – W Rodriguez The play: SF Giants +117 (2 units) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We pointed out yesterday that the Giants came out of spring training with a load of confidence and cashed on the Bay Area Giants. Today, having watched last night’s game, we like the Jints once again. Zito pitched well the second half of last season and had a decent spring. Wandy, on the other hand, had his problems in the preseason. We never put much weight on “the Wandy at Home theory”, so let’s not go there. The Giants well rounded attack will continue against Wandy and the Astros offense, which came alive late last night but really hit only one pitcher (Medders), and will have similar problems against Zito and anyone else the Giants throw at them. The net, net, the Giants have a far superior lineup and are playing inspired ball. That should carry them to 2-0 tonight. 10:05 PM EDT 963 Seattle Mariners – I Snell 964 Oakland A’s – D Braden -126 The play: Oakland A’s -126 (2 units) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- We watched last night’s game in its entirety. We are very big on the more baseball you watch, the more you learn. What did we learn besides the fact that the Mariners almost gave the game away? We learned that the Mariners will once again have their problems. We learned that we were wrong, right in picking the Mariners as a winner, but wrong that the A’s would come out uninspired after the Cust fiasco. This young A’s team is scrappy and will come to play day in and day out. Their relief staff is way above average and tonight their starter, Braden is on his way up, while one can build a case that Snell is on his way down. Neither of these teams can hit but we give the edge to the A’s despite Chavez looking half dead; maybe he will get early “rest”. Tonight we will NOT watch this matchup as we can do that to ourselves again. A’s will prevail in this snore-ball game. GL, RUDY

Wed 4/7 Afternoon Play 2-0 +4.34 units yesterday 4-0 +9.34 2010 MLB season --------------------------------- 2:05 PM EDT 951 SF Giants – M Cain -147 952 Houston Astros – B Myers The play: SF Giants -147 (2 units) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not going to write this one up. Just cut and past write-ups from last two nights and change the pitchers' names. Typically, we do not like to lay this number but we prefer not to play the Run Line on get away day with a team going for a sweep. Giants should continue their mastery against the pathetic Astros. (Back this afternoon with tonight's plays) GL, RUDY
