A trio of Starter-Based Trends for 7/8

A trio of Starter-Based Trends for 7/8 1. The Giants are 11-0 as a DOG with Zito vs a team that has lost at least their last two games and it is not the first game of a series. SDQL: starter=Barry Zito and D and o:streak1 and 20080529
Not disparaging the picks or the info, but isn't this just the ultimate in data mining?
Data Mining Indeed. That's exactly what it is. Data mining. They are not selections. It is accurate information that can be used as part of the selections-making process. There's nothing wrong with data mining. The error comes from blindly using the mined data without the input of a thoughtful, informed and knowledgeable handicapper. Some of the best and most profitable handicapping information has come from data mining. Of course, a lot of garbage comes from data mining as well. The key, as I'm sure you are aware, is to separate the trends that simply describe the past from those that predict future performance as well. After all, when mining for real gold, most of time you just get sand and dirt. But when you do strike gold, it can be very profitable. Thanks for the thoughtful question. I actually posted the trends to get input from experts on whether they were valuable or not. I enjoy the challenge of using the SDQL to find interesting trends in past performance. Bases
Thanks for the response

Keep 'em coming. I can see a case for all three, although a lot has to depend on previous opponents, of course. The nice thing is that you know these things are not directly factored into a line.
"Not factored into the Line" This is a insightful comment. This is information that is not well known and therefore not factored into the line. IF it actually is valuable information, then we have an opportunity. I'm not recommending anyone bet the way the trend indicates. Of course, if there are other compelling reasons and you think the trend has predictive value, fire away. And then let me know how you did. I'll keep posting them and I welcome all comments. Especially those that help me "fine-tune" my own data mining -- negative comments are just as useful as positive ones. Bases
