Tuesday - 08/10 I'm on the Phillies under 8.5 today.
From now until Sept 1st call-ups I'll be treading very lightly on under wagers. This month is the dog days of summer. I heard two different radio pregame shows on Sunday and players were quoted as saying this is the month they feel very tired, pitchers included. The summer heat, the 5th month of baseball almost every day, starts to take it's toll.
Teams that are still in the race get a shot of adrenaline in September that pulls them out of fatigue and into the hunt for a playoff run.
For the other teams the new players from the minors are inserted, you have an influx of fresh pitchers and the totals again seem to be consistent with the numbers from earlier in the year.
So, with that being said, I cannot resist this game. I wish the number was 9 and last year it probably would have been.
Padilla has allowed in his last 8 starts, 0,2,1,0,0,2,1 and 2 earned runs, only one of them a 4 inning effort when he walked 5. All others he went deep into the game.
Kendrick was hammered by the Cards on July 19th but I'm willing to give him a pass there as his other 4 starts have been 2,1,1, and 3 earned.
The Bums have lost 5 in a row on the road scoring an average of under 2 runs a game and batting under .190.
The Phillies are playing great. I can't argue that. But, with Utley, Victorino and Howard on the DL this run production has to slow down sometime.
I'm fine with both bullpens.
The wind is expected to blow out to right 4-9 mph.
I'll stick with the total and hope 8.5 runs is too high.
