Bowl Eligible Teams Here is the list of teams that will gain Bowl Eligibility with
a win this week. Some guys feel this is worth considering
as a handicapping factor, especially if the game in front of
them is one that looks the most winnable. Do think there
are spots that this may be worth giving weight to but certainly
not all of them. The lessor teams probably put more emphasis
on this then the ones that are used to going to Bowls.
ACC
#142 Maryland -6 vs Syracuse
Maryland gets BC at home in two weeks which would be
their other very winnable game.
Big 10
#119 Iowa -15 vs Purdue
This is probably a game they need to win. They
host Michigan in two weeks and are at Nebraska in
the season finale. Could easily lose both of those.
PAC 12
#164 Washington -28 vs Colorado
No urgency here. Should get it this week but if they
somehow lose they get three more shots.
SEC
Georgia vs App St
No line on this one yet but no worries for this team.
#160 Mississippi -16.5 vs Arkansas
They get Troy next week at home so they'll get there.
Mountain West
#185 Utah St -13.5 @ UNLV
UNLV is also playing for Bowl Eligibilty at 5-4 so
the schedule ahead comes into play as well.
Utah St is in a little better shape there as they get
the last two games at home. UNLV has a winnable
road game at Air Force coming up but they are not
exactly known for their winning ways away from LV.
#202 San Jose St -6.5 vs San Diego St
This one is actually more critical for the 4-win Aztecs.
San Jose has three games left and two are very winnable.
SD St goes to Hawaii next week, then gets Boise @ home
and closes at UNLV. They need to win 2 of the last 4 games.
CONF USA
#136 Marshall -23.5 vs UAB
They'll get there this week and they get FIU in two weeks
just in case. Bowl Eligibility is not on their minds.
#188 MTSU -18 vs FIU
Speaking of the Panthers, they should insure Middle Tennessee
gets what they need. IF the Blue Raiders fail here they do get
UTEP in their last game.
INDEPENDENTS
Both BYU and Navy are 5-3 and both should get the required 6 wins.
Navy has 4 winnable games left including as a 17 fave this week vs
visiting Hawaii. BYU plays Idaho St next week and that's their tap-in.
This week the games that look like it is a big concern are the ones
taking place in the Mountain West. Utah St, UNLV, SD St and SJ St
all could use wins to further their cause. In the Big 10, Iowa on the
road vs Purdue is one where it would be wise for them to win
as their schedule to close the season is pretty tough.
